The Role
I had a good time and met lots of great people as well as learning new skills, however there were quite a few times when i didn't have lots of work to do. I enjoyed the exposure to the working world and also to the automotive industry and how I've learnt a lot about data quality.
I felt valued to a certain extent however there were lots of times when i feel like i could have helped more than i did and participated more, yet i was given important daily tasks. I could have been given a project that would have made me more valued by others. However i got on well with my team.
I was given support by my mentor however i feel that he was alot more interested in his own stuff and alot of my team have left the company over the past few weeks which makes sense why they were less interested in helping and it has meant the last few weeks was more about creating handover documents than giving me any work to do.
Not that busy, i spent a lot of the time not doing loads. However when i did have a task to do i was busy there was just not quite enough tasks set. In my free time however i learnt how to code using different techniques which could aid me with some of the data analysis i was doing.
When given a task i had lots of responsibility but especially at the start i had not much responsibility as had very little access to the data sources. I sometimes felt that when i did a task however the my mentor would redo it before he gave it to someone else before even looking at my work so that felt like i had little responsibility as he didn't trust my work even when he hadn't seen it and thought he could do everything better and didn't respect my abilities.
I have learnt a lot of different coding techniques and a lot of new skills about data presentation and also about how to present data and my findings in the best and clearest way possible. I have also learnt important skills about how to interact in a business environment and skills about being organised and waking up early which will greatly help me with my degree as well as a lot more knowledge about the automotive industry.
The Company
The general atmosphere was okay, hwoever towards the end the atmosphere became worse as people left the company meaning everyone else in the tema was left trying to pick up the pieces and alot of poeple were very confused about there exact role in the company.
It was organised to a certain extent, on a company level it was well organised but my personal role was badly organsied as i wasnt given a project or even much work to do throughout my placement and i believe with a proper task set it would have been alot more beneficial to all.
Personal development was good as there were online learning courses and also other courses. I had wanted to participate on a course however it wasn't approved fast enough by my manager so there were no spaces left, yet i feel if you were on a longer placement the personal training would be very good!
Subsidised Canteen
They are appealing to a certain extent, the grad scheme looks good and the grads who work here seem to enjoy it. In additions there is a large community within the grad network. There is also a really positive women in engineering scheme which is very motivating and seems like a good community.
The Culture
I feel like there was a good community and i met lots of lovely people who are very friendly. The buddy scheme is good and also the grad net is very good and positive about organizing events and socials for everyone. I have a had a very good social life whilst on the intenship.
I go to uni in the area so cost of living was not any more expensive for me. The area leamington spa is very good and i dont think its that expensive.
The nightlife is okay not amazing as leamington is mainly a student town and during summer there is not loads going on as the clubs arent super lively, however the pubs are good and you can go to Birmingham easily for a nightout if wanted.
Yeah there were lots of opportunities to get involved in different things, mainly through the gradnet from sport to getting involved in the defender launch and work finishes early enough that there is lots of free time to do other activities.
