The Role
Over the course of 10 weeks, I had the opportunity to be very involved with the project. Being on site most of the time was very fun!
The atmosphere was friendly and everybody was really nice. There was a lot to learn from many of them and they were keen to share their experiences. I was made to feel really welcome and could openly ask questions.
My supervisors were great. They always had time to answer any questions that i had and to share what they have learned from their experiences which was nice. They were also always ready to show how things are done and then allow me to do it on my own under supervision allowing me to have a very hands on approach.
In the beginning it was mostly shadowing works. This is critical however to familiarise myself with the project. After which, I was trusted to do tasks that was actually significant and contributed to the project. My workload increased but as I was always supported, it was never tough to cope with.
After familiarising myself with particular aspects of the project, I was given tasks to do such as setting out and even managing works although I was only there for 10 weeks.
Besides the technical skills that I developed, I also enhanced my organisational and management skills. I also learned a lot about on-site engineering works and how decisions are made, which is critical in problem solving.
The Company
All my colleagues were friendly and open. You could walk up to anybody if you had a question. It was very fun working with them and I had a great time!
I was given information prior to the beginning of my placement and even got to speak to my line manager which i thought was great to learn more about the project i was going to be working on. Throughout the internship, I was well informed of everything needed to be completed such as reports and reviews well ahead of time which gives you sufficient preparation time.
The company had a lot to offer with regards to personal training and development as this placement had a very hands on approach to learning the tasks.
