The Role
As with any placement, it took time to pick up, however by the end of it I didn’t want to leave
My colleagues were very good making me feel that the work I was doing was very useful and productive for the team
I felt comfortable asking questions whenever I needed to in order to help me understand a problem
I never felt overworked and always had ongoing tasks to work on between being given a new task
As a student intern I was not expecting much responsibility but was pleasantly surprised with some of the tasks I was assigned that required my using my engineering judgement
I feel much more confident going into my final year project having completed this placement and I believe has taught me the practicality of how engineers work in the workplace
The Company
Very friendly and inclusive
Very organised however a few IT issues had to be resolved
Despite not having training sessions I feel I learnt a lot about industry, in particular coordination within the engineering disciplines and external parties - Arup also would support my chartership in the event that I become full time
Flexi Time
Working from home
I would love to work with Arup full time, specifically in the office I completed my placement
The Culture
There was only one apprentice student in the team I was working, and he was very friendly
Reasonable - very close to high street with well known supermarkets
I didn’t get to experience the nightlife as of yet
Weekly team gatherings in the summer at a pub, would have enjoyed playing some sort of sport while there!
