The Role
the job gave me a lot of experience. the internship programme itself offered a very large range of insights, talks, overviews etc which were great as they broke up the day a little bit so you weren't sat behind the desk all day every day which i really liked and appreciated.
i had a great team, although it was really very small. my team were really helpful, understanding and encouraging the whole time. no question was stupid and they seemed to really care about me doing well throughout the programme which felt great and pushed me to work even harder to show my gratitude.
my manager was really supportive, perhaps more so than others from what i heard. she didn't spoon feed me but explained al the tasks she gave me in detail before hand and gave me a loose reign, but still answering questions if i had them. i got given a lot of responsibility and independence in my work
i was busy 70% of the time when sat at my desk. the internship also encouraged you to network and find out more about other departments too, so you weren't chained to your desk all day and had free reign so figure out your own schedule. some days you leave later than others
i was given a lot of responsibility, especially in the second half of the internship as i knew what i was doing more. from day one though my manager gave me tasks she knew would improve my general understanding so that i could do tasks later on that were meaningful and impactful
i study languages at university so i did not really gain any technical skills that are useful to my degree. however, there were loads of online trainings you could do if you were motivated, like learning how to code VBA. my microsoft office skills improved vastly, especially powerpoint and excel
The Company
i had to move office floor during the internship so the people sat around me were not in my team or wider team, so i didn't really have much contact with them. some people were not very friendly if you were not in their team or if you were 'back office' and they were front
the internship was really well organised and they had really thought out the programme. they also listened to our suggestions, and because of this added additional business overviews that some interns had requested to give us what we wanted which was greta. they also checked in on us regularly which felt nice
the firm really care about your career progression and offer loads of opportunities, both related to your job and un related. for example i go t the chance to volunteer for the alzheimers society whilst on my internship, as well as volunteer for trees4cities as they want you to gain as many skills as possible
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare/Dental
the future job prospects for this company are really quite good, they have a well-tailored scheme for graduates which has a very attractive salary and benefits. the working hours are not so appealing but that's normal for the type of industry they are in. i would definitely like to work there
The Culture
the social scene among interns was vibrant. every day we met for lunch or coffees, and went for drinks etc every week. the internship itself also hosted intern-wide events from all different sectors so you got to mingle with loads of interns from your division and others. it was all free too which was great
the cost of living was extortionate and puts you off living thee slightly. they had a firm canteen which was good, and had a very varied price range so you could eat cheaply if you wanted or have an extravagant lunch every day. the accommodation took half my salary, and transport costs were horrible
