Financial analyst Review

I really enjoyed the internship. I felt very valued and always felt like I could ask for help when I needed. I also got a large exposure to different areas of the bank, even outside of my field. There were various social and networking events that were enjoyable and also lots of informative presentations by different people within the bank that helped me further understand how J P Morgan works

From the beginning my colleagues all ensured that I was extremely comfortable. They gave me alot of space to make mistakes and learn from them. When I was given tasks I was not just told what to do but also why it is relevant to the final objective. I never felt like an intern and always felt valued by my team

We had various informative sessions that gave us overviews of different fields and areas within the bank. We also had graduate awareness sessions and talks about CIMA. In the first week we had various presentations about J P Morgan, compliance, and other related issues. We also had an entire afternoon of excel training that was very useful. In addition the team was always willing to help and answer any questions you may have.

The level of work was very variable on a day to day basis. On month ends and specially quarter ends it was very busy and there were lots to do in a short time. so in a month about 2.5 weeks are very busy. The rest 1.5 weeks is a little less stressful. But there was always something to so.

I had my own stand alone projects and deliverables. Although they were always checked before being sent outside of the immediate team, it was quite important. I felt like I was adding value because I was given wok with very high responsibilities. It was always okay to make mistakes with them as well since someone checked them afterwards.

The excel training I received is something that will be very valuable to me after the end of my degree when I work. I also got a lot of practical knowledge. It helped me understand business language better and improve my communications skills. Multitasking with all the deliverables improved my time management skill as well.

The general office environment was not too stressful and fairly relaxed. Colleagues are all friends and make jokes and have fun. People often went and got coffee together. Everyone was always making plans to go out for drinks together. Everyone helped eachother when ever they needed to and there was not any backstabbing culture.

The whole internship scheme was very well set up and organised. The first week was mostly training and getting to know the team you would be working in. Half way through we had to do a self evaluation and there was a mid internship review with the manager to see how things were and if there was anything you could improve on.

The company invests alot in their employees. We got training in the entire first week on compliance and Excel. There are also voluntary training you can take relating to bank activities or even python coding etc. There were also soft skills training sessions such as presentation skills. And for the graduate scheme the company pays for your CIMA qualification and gives paid study leaves and resources.

They are very appealing. We had a graduate awareness session that gave us all the necessary information we needed about employment. In addition the company seems to invest alot in their employees (CIMA Qualifications) so I can see myself improving and gaining invaluable experiences with them. The work environment is not too corporate. The employees are all very nice and enjoyable to work with.

The team occasionally does socials. On a casual basis they go for after work drinks but sometimes they will organize a social like mini golf or target shooting. As for the interns we always went out end of the week to Slug and Lettuce after work and stayed for a few hours. There was a very good social scene amongst the interns.

It was very expensive around Canary Wharf. On average lunch would cost around 6-8 pounds per day on normal days. Breakfast was an addition 4-5 pounds. Socializing like going for drinks around Canary Wharf would easily cost 20-25 pounds per day, On top of that if there were any special dinner or lunch plans then that would also cost about 20-30 pounds.

J P Morgan has business resource groups such as one for women or for young talent. They were a great platform to talk about current issues facing them and to socialize and network outside of your working team. There are also many sports and language groups you can get involved in.
