The Role
I found my summer placement really enjoyable.
I felt valued by the company and there was very much a family feel.
Support was always there when needed and colleagues were more than willing to help out or answer any questions. At times maybe the guidance could have been better as there were times I found myself without work to do, but this also gave me the opportunity to use my time speaking with other staff, helping out in different areas and widening my knowledge of different works on site.
As expected towards the start of my placement I was short of work but towards the end I had plenty to do. The workload was good, enough to keep me busy but I didn't feel over worked.
Naturally, responsibility increased as my time on placement progressed. I would have preferred more responsibility but being such a short period I couldn't have expected much more.
I learnt a lot about the way a construction project is run and thought this was very beneficial. I soon got a feel for the job and realised it is definitely the job/industry I would like to get into once I finish my studies.
The Company
A good working environment with an ideal mix of professionalism and fun.
It took quite a long time for me to find out where I would be based after finding out I had been offered a placement. I wouldn't say there was an organised programme for my learning, more rather I was placed with an experienced member of staff and learnt/shadowed their work. This wasn't a bad thing however, I found it worked well for me. However if I was in a full time graduate roll I would want a clearer learning/training programme.
They put me on my test for a CSCS card. The opportunities for further training seem to be available and if I had wanted to go on extra training such as First Aid course it would have been possible. As I was only on a 3 month placement I didn't do any training.
Company Parties/Events
I would return, I had a very good experience with Sisk.
The Culture
The office nights out were a good laugh and a good way to get to know my colleagues.
