The Role
I absolutely adored my time at Microsoft for 12 months. I was lucky enough to travel with the company abroad several times and found the work extremely interesting. I was given really interesting hands on work and had my own responsibilities. I know most of my peers found the same thing when working there for the year.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. Many of them, I felt, were heavily invested in my personal development which was a wonderful feeling. When doing work and helping others I was always given feedback which made me feel as though people were extremely happy to help you grow and learn from situations.
I was often offered support and guidance by my manager, mentor and HR rep. People were happy to help as mentioned above. When first joining the intern reps know there will be a slight culture shock as you move from uni to work and happy to have calls and meetings with you to make sure your okay. The HR support was absolutely amazing here!
Very busy!! But you could control how much you took on and I loved being busy. Some people who more shy to opportunities could control their work load more however I was keen to get stuck in! Being busy and stuck into work life helped me get a really feel for what it would be like after uni!
As a intern I feel I was extremely lucky and given a lot of responsibility. I wasn’t micromanaged at all and was control of what I did when. This allowed me to grow as a independent individual. The responsibility I was given was a good amount for someone who is interning.
I’ve said it once And will say it again! I learnt more on my internship than I did ever in a year of uni or school. The skills and the lessons learned are so applicable to my course at uni and most importantly my future career! I can’t wait to go back to uni and apply some of the theory I used in work.
