The Role
An amazing experience which massively developed my interpersonal skills which will only benefit me moving forward. Over and above that, this placement was a massive stepping stone towards working in this industry and was massively helpful in learning the ways of business in the modern world.
No water the role or seniority, people would ensure you were happy, pushing yourself and making the most of the placement. My mentor was senior within the business unit I sat in, it was great to see them devote a lot of the time over the year for my development.
My manager and mentors were instrumental in my development and success over the year. My manager ensured I was working well and provided support where appropriate. My mentors were very useful in advising me and directing me in order to learn more about the industry and future goals/ideas.
I think for me I found myself very busy a lot over my placement, however, this was because I was keen to get into a true range of projects so was partially my fault. I think 9 stars works as sometimes work would be given to me without understanding what work I was currently doing.
Massive responsibility was given to me over the year, I was working on important projects with senior people within the business which was massively rewarding and insightful.
My degree can be applied when looking specifically at organisational and behavioural psychology. When looking at the business world and the computing industry, this placement has given me a massive insight and I will continue to learn more in this space. Lastly my soft skills have massively developed which are definitely long term benefits.
The Company
The office had great attributes making your time at the office very enjoyable. The only reason to mark my place of work down is due to the lack of employees who actually came to work. Being a computing company people really don’t have to be in the office so sometimes felt a bit quiet
Only issues were found before the placement started, upon applying to this placement I found myself chasing to uncover how the process was going and the output of certain activities. During the internship I was very well looked after and provided a great platform to go.
We had free Technical exams given to us as well as a whole intranet filled with educational videos and programs. Education and learning is fundamental to the culture of Microsoft so we were given the time to learn and grow which was awesome to see.

Within such a vast organisation the opportunity to work and grow within it is great. I am fortunate enough to have been offered a graduate role so the future is very exciting for me within this organisation.
The Culture
We had 63 interns, 90+ apprentices and 30+ graduates resulting in a great social atmosphere and a multitude of opportunities to do extra-curricular activities. Microsoft also has clubs which you can join which is another way to meet other people within the company.
Reading is a university town so is quite cheap, I lived at home so living costs was minimal however I am aware that Reading is quite expensive as it is near London.
Isn’t the best city for nightlife however it still has a range of different bars, clubs and activities.
Microsoft had a good amount of sports clubs to join however outside of sport I am unaware of other activities. Within the intern community we organised a range of activities to grow relationships between our community.
