The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at Arup. Having worked in other engineering consultancy companies, the experience working in Arup is a unique one. With lots of collaboration and coordination, I learned tons of new skills that I could bring with me everywhere.
My colleagues at Arup were very friendly and understanding since day one. Whenever I have issues with work, they're always willing to help. Overall, what an awesome group of people!
My supervisor was excellent, always made sure that I was busy with work but also to ensure that I wasn't too stressed. Very friendly and easy to talk to whenever I have trouble at work.
It was a running start since day one. As I came in with relevant skills, I was pretty much busy every day during the internship. It was a good kind of busy and it also wasn't too stressful.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. But only so much an intern could do! It wasn't to the point where I was running the show, but I had my work recognised by everyone involved in the project!
I have learned a lot during this internship. Not only technical skills (like AutoCAD and Revit) but also interpersonal skills such as coordinating with engineers of other disciplines and communicating with other stakeholders during meetings and conference calls.
The Company
The office had a hot desk system which kept the atmosphere alive all the time. Colleagues were also very fun to talk to, good way to relieve stress!
The internship is quite well organised. Could've done better with an introductory session. But at the same time, it would feel like a school field trip rather than a work experience if there were too many organised activities. Overall, good balance.
Good amounts of training and development. Treated like a full-time employee. Trained in safety, workflow and ethics skills of the company

The Culture
The other interns were very friendly! We go out to cafes and get lunch together whenever we can. Great bunch of people!
Being in London, travel and living cost could be quite expensive. However, the company have subsidised canteens which helped a lot. Great coffee and cakes!
