The Role
I really enjoyed working at CBRE,the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I was able to talk to lots of people and learn what each department did and how they work together as a whole. It gave me a real insight into what they did and whether I wanted to do this as a career. The work my team gave me was actually beneficial to them which made me feel really valued.
I felt very valued by my team (Corporate Capital Markets), they gave me lots of work to do when they could and which was challenging. It made me feel very useful when I could help them out which they then rewarded me by taking me out to lunch. Whenever they went to get a drink or snack they would always offer if I wanted anything and include me in their conversations.
I was given lots of support when I needed it and asked. It was really good that when I was given a task I was just left to complete it and I could ask if I was going along the right lines and I didnt feel like I was a burden. For the end of the internship, you have to do a powerpoint presentation. They provided lots of talks on how to improve your skills, to help you prepare for this, which actually helped me a lot and I am planning to keep using the techniques in the future.
There was a good balance between me being busy and having the time to go and talk to other staff and learn from them. My mentor had to visit property sites in other countries, but other members of the team gave me work to do. Eventually, I had completed nearly everything but this meant I could meet up with the other interns to complete the presentation.
I think I was given as much responsibility an intern could get given. I would have to complete site profiles for people which would actually be used and have to send them off in emails. Once given a task, I would be left alone unless I asked for help which my team were happy to give.
Definitely the presentations on how a presentation should be structured assisted me. I am planning to use them in my final year at University and the future. The skills were simple yet very effective and I can still remember it now. They also provided other presentations which were very interesting and gave me a better insight into the company and the market.
The Company
The general atmosphere was relaxed. People would laugh and tell jokes and when needed the area would be quiet for serious work. It had a good balance.
It was well organised, the presentation gave us work to do when we had finished all we could from our team members. I know that some other interns didnt have that much work to do (but they didnt try to get more). The induction day and end day I thought worked really well as it meant we got to make friends and on the last day do a serious thing and then have fun.
They provided lots of training sessions for the presentation which were very interesting and useful, as well as other meetings which would inform us about the upcoming technologies and the markets.
Subsidised Canteen
It is very appealing as if you are on the graduate scheme you get a permanent contract from day one and you can learn lots of things as well as being given lots of responsibility to do important work. Also, the culture is very relaxed and the staff are very friendly.
The Culture
As we have an induction day it meant we all had a day to talk and make friends. This was increased as we would meet every lunch and would call the interns who were in different offices when we would do work on our presentations.
It was on Bond Street in London so expensive, buts thats London.
It was bond street.
