The Role
I absolutely loved my placement! ARUP are excellent employers who really care about the staff they employ.
Colleagues within ARUP respected each other and worked with each other extremely well! They made it extremely easy to transition into the company, from university, as a first full-time job.
The support network within ARUP was excellent, through training modules, appraisals, mentoring, and general help from other team members.
I had a steady workflow within ARUP which ranged from different types of geotechnical tasks at different levels. I feel the balance of work I was given through my year in the industry was perfect
I was given more responsisbilty than I was expecting to recieve during my placement year, however I believed this is what made my placement even better.
I believe the skills which I received within ARUP will be extremely beneficial in the remainder of my studies. Especially as geotechnics is a larger module in this year coming.
The Company
There was a brilliant atmosphere in the office, which had a brilliant balance between work and fun. Everybody was always friendly and always wanted to have a good chat or joke about something.
The organisation of the workplace Enti was excellent and I believe it was one of the best you could be in with the chance of completing. All the staff took and interest in your development and where willing to answer and questions or queries I had. I also found that they where not only finding but also making opportunities for me to learn in different environments like onsite.
If you felt like you didn’t understand an area, topic or software, there was no hesitation as to if you had to complete training on it. Staff would not only encourage you to go on training courses but also willingly sit down and explain topics to you.

They where very impressed and would like me back, however an interview process will need to be completed.
The Culture
Yes there was an excellent social sense between fellow placement students.
My living costs where fairly low as I was living at home while working for the company. However places in Belfast for solcialising can be expensive, but also there are nice places which are fairly cheap also.
I wasn’t a huge social person however the events I went too where always very well supported by the office, and the nightlife when I was out was excellent.
There where numerous opportunities to be involved with outside activities within work. A large part of those activities would have been STEM activities.
