The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year so far - I would recommend anyone looking for one to apply to Intel!
As there are only around 20 people in my team we all knew each other very well and I felt valued by each of them - this made it easier to approach team members if I had a question or issue.
A lot of interns were assigned a supervisor when we first started - I however did not. This did not affect my role & if I needed support or guidance it was always available from my manager or other team members.
Due to my role being event's based, how busy I was daily varied over the year (there was a lot more work & I was constantly busy around these times & had no time for other project involvement)
As before, depending on the project I was working on, responsibility was varied throughout the year.
I believe the skills I have developed have prepared me for applying for jobs & future working life. Also doing a placement year has allowed me to control my time management - which I will put into practice when returning to university as well as understanding business activity & putting university studies/theories into real life situations.
The Company
The general atmosphere in my office was really laid back. Usually most of the team were in the office on a daily basis.
The overall placement was very well set up. After the job offer we attended an open day where we got to meet all the other successful candidates - this gave us chance to sort out our living arrangements. When all the interns first started we were given lots of training classes to ensure we were well prepared for our roles. This was a good chance to get to know the interns we would be working with for the 13 months.
Intel offered a variety of compulsary training classes and the option to attend any others we wished to take part in.

As my department rarely ever takes on new interns due to small headcount numbers, it is not very likely.
The Culture
Yeah, the social aspect outside of work is really good. We have a social committee who arrange activities for all the interns to do. Things as an intern group which we have done include nights out in different cities, a trip to Amsterdam, a holiday to Romania then after work things such as cinema & bowling! Also there are also other activities organised by Intel which are for all employees to take part in e.g. go karting!
As I attend university in Newcastle I expected the living costs down south to be more expensive however rent is a lot cheaper in Swindon. I pay £275 a month rent, on a new, 4 bedroom house. The general costs of living are not much different than at uni!
The nightlife in Swindon is not great - however as we have 60+ interns we usually end up having a good night out. There is also a choice between the town centre & Old Town Swindon. Thursday night is "student night".
Yeah there were lots of opportunities to get involved with activities such as football, netball, karting etc! Lots of teams have individual team building activities too.
