The Role
Due to the nature of the business and day to day tasks, you can be somewhat limited on what you can and will be given more project work but staff and the work can be brilliant if approached in the right mind set. You can also vary your work if you communicate effectively with the team.
I felt extremely valued. Handelsbanken pride themselves on being Pro-young staff and what to make sure that they and you get the most value out of the internship. The team welcome you and will never say no to assisting you and will help to the utmost of their abilities. the team also will personally help as well with the social side as well.
The Management/supervisors are brilliant in the branch. The will all make time and/or will help to their upmost to assist you in the work you are doing. They understand that you may be lacking in knowledge and/or skills and will adjust to you without making you feel inadequate or just there for cheap labour.
Due to doing project work and limited in the responsibilities you're given, certain tasks can be quite repetitive and mundane but with effective communication you can balance this with other jobs/tasks. But you will never be left with no work, there would always be a task available if you put in the effort to ask.
I was given a lot of responsibility while on the internship. I was given a lot of project work that benefited the branch and was given tasks that were highly relevant and gave me the chance to work closely with a lot of the staff on different tasks.
My skills were developed extremely well and has given me a very strong base to further my Job potential in the business and industry. I received a lot of relevant training from staff and the head office and was also given the chance to network extremely well a large range of departments
The Company
The Atmosphere in the office is a brilliant environment to work in. The balance of Social/ humour & professional business is the best of any company I have known and the team all work together effectively assisting each other as much as they can. No one is singled out and are willing to help pick up the slack if someone is struggling.
Bar the first 2 weeks where the required staff to give me access to the system were away and the tasks I could do were limited, but after that they were extremely organised and made sure that I was able to stay busy rather than coast. Due to the way the branch works everything can be monitored and tracked so work is effectively completed in a decent time period.
The company as a whole invested a lot of time and money into making sure all of their interns gain valuable exposure to the industry and can walk away with a strongly developed skill set that they could potentially utilise in the future as well. they also provided multiple chances to network with other departments to potentially chase other job opportunities.
SHB is an extremely appealing company to look for future employment with. Due to their unique business structure a vast number of opportunities are available if chased effectively. Strong support is also available from the personnel team that will assist and provide advice into looking for future potential employment or career progression.
The Culture
There was a couple of opportunities in the short period I was in the SHB branch, Work socials happen periodically and other occasions arise where the team are able to socialise out of office hour. Other pieces like a Fantasy football league and FIKA provide other opportunities to socialise and add liveliness to the office environment.
The cost of living is extremely affordable in Worcester due to it being University City a wide range of Student/Young professional housing is available to utilise.
Due to Worcester being a University City the nightlife if extremely good. a large number of events and bars are available and provides more than enough entertainment and chances to socialise with students and other young people in the area.
There has been a large number of opportunities to get involved with a lot of charity work and client/corporate sponsored events and there are always members of the team up to participating in these. Due to the wide range of potential events it also provides as an excellent networking opportunity.
