    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I throughly enjoyed my time at CBRE. I was given a varied range of work by my line managers, was able to meet with a vast range of people from around the business, received a number of beneficial training sessions and was amongst a diverse range of other interns. It was a great opportunity to gain an insight into the company and its culture, ultimately to see if I would be a good fit and vice versa.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were always willing to answer questions, and provide me with meaningful work. They also took me on a site visit and included me in meetings with clients. Overall I felt very included in the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager held a number of catch up sessions throughout the month internship. We also went for a feedback session at the end. On a daily basis they were always happy to answer questions, and I did a number of shadowing sessions with my line manager which allowed me to really gain an insight into the day to day role. They also organised for me to sit in one day with another team which I was interested in. There was never a time where I felt I couldn't ask questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Whilst there was some down times, due to it generally being a quieter time of the year for the team. For the majority of the time I had a number of ongoing projects.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In relative terms I feel I was given a good amount of responsibility during my internship. Realistically I was never going to be tasked with a huge project for a client. However I did contribute to a number of client projects, researched retailers financials and assisted with valuations. One draw back was I didn't have access to the valuation software used.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My experiences will really help me tie my academic studies to the practical work I conducted. We also received presentation and pitch training, which will help me when presenting assessed coursework at university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team had recently been moved due to ongoing building works, and where tucked away on a different floor to the rest of the valuations department. Whilst it was a shame I was unable to experience being on the main floor, the atmosphere in my immediate team was very welcoming, hard working and fun.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. They started off with an induction day, where we got to meet other interns and gained an insight into the company and the coming month. During the internship we were invited to a number of training sessions and talks. To finish it all off the CBRE next gen team organised an intern BBQ.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We received a number of training sessions - Including presentation, pitch and technology training. My line manager also took me along to a number of client meetings and site visits, which really helped contribute to my personal development.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Whilst the internship will certainly stand me in good stead. There is still a competitive process to go through. If I receive positive feedback I will have to pass an online (video) interview and assessment centre. However I will skip some of the initial stages, such as the covering letter and online tests.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The other interns were very sociable. We created a group chat and met up a number of times after work for drinks, whilst the company also organised an end of internship BBQ. My colleagues were also very sociable, and invited me for lunch on multiple occasions and also drinks after work.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being located in London prices were naturally higher than elsewhere in the UK. However the remuneration was enough to cover these costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We were based in central London, where there is a vast range of opportunities to socialise with your colleagues.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As the internship only lasted for one month there was limited opportunity to be involved in activities outside work. We were invited to a sports day, but unfortunately only had the opportunity to attend the end due to an ongoing training session (which rightly took priority)
