Corporate Analyst Development Program Review

I think there is no possible way of expressing how thankful I am for the opportunity I was given with this internship. I have learnt so much during those 10 weeks, not only about banking, corporate and the firm, but about people, culture and traditions. I have grown, academically, professionally and personally.

For me, the concept of "intern" meant coffee-maker, photocopy-person and file-organiser, i.e. that person who is in charge of doing all the non-risk and boring tasks. However, I never felt that way during the ten weeks of the internship - I always felt valued by my colleagues. I felt I added value to our final product, to our team and to the firm.

Given what I just stated in the previous answer, it is not of a surprise to say that I felt very comfortable around the office, and one of the major reasons for that is precisely the support and guidance received from my manager(s) and supervisors. Every single time I had a doubt or question or was not sure about something, I felt free (and welcomed) to ask them.

It is difficult to answer giving a specific and precise number or figure, as throughout the internship I have experienced moments in which I was very busy (but because I wanted to get certain things done ahead of schedule and get other things started - NOT because I was "forced" to work until late nor similar), and also days in which I had very little to do. This latter happened especially at the end of the internship, when I had already completed my major projects and because I was about to go, it was not worth being taught something new and then leaving.

I say that because I was given more responsibility than expected. Compared to my managers, I had almost none, but my project was being passed around and used amongst the team, and thus I felt I was responsible for it.

Bearing in mind I am an Aerospace Engineer, the skills learnt in an internship with a bank, are not, logically, very related to my degree studies. However, finance and banking is involved in every single existing business (and especially in the aviation/aerospace sector, where everything is very expensive!), so all the skills learnt during this internship are indirectly related and of course, very useful - for me and for everyone!

I still cannot believe how wonderful the atmosphere was in the office. One would imagine a bank as a boring place to work at. Well, it was completely the opposite: white tall walls, with massive windows allowing the sunlight to come in, big spaces that avoided the sense of being "trapped" at work, a cafeteria inside the hall, increasing the traffic of people walking up and down, having informal talks over coffee and enforcing a relaxing ambience.

I was not an intern yet, I was still an applicant, when I noticed that the organisation in the company was extraordinary. Once I got accepted, the organisation got even better, if possible, and by the time I started working, I was amazed by how well everything was put together - the program, the events, the timings, ... EVERYTHING!

At of all the internships I have done, all the experiences I have heard from friends taking internships at other companies and testimonies from seniors at other firms, I can say that this company has invested a lot in me (and in every employee). And this is not an absolute opinion, but one also based on what happens in other companies.

Everyone wanted to come back, and those who rejected the offer they got at the end of the internship was because they were applying to another program but in the same company, meaning that, no matter where, we all fell in love with the company - that must mean something, i.e. the future employment prospects within the organisation are VERY appealing.

The costs were pretty decent and socialising was very easy, as the atmosphere between interns was awesome and the city we were at, because the university is growing and it attracts a lot of students and youth, had a lot of bars, pubs, events and activities we could go to.

the nightlife in my neighbourhood was almost inexistent, but because it was a residential area and there were only houses and sport facilities. Yes, the company has many social integration groups (running, softball, football, pride, women on the move, etc.) that organise events outside of work, where you can meet a lot of employees outside the office.
