    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found this experience highly enjoyable, having had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the company. I especially enjoyed shadowing professionals from various different departments and finding out about how these contribute to the overall business. I also enjoyed the variety of business areas I had the option to learn about.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I was made to feel very valued throughout the placement. I was treated as part of the team for the duration, having the opportunity to attend numerous team meetings and contribute my thoughts and opinions. I also felt that the team were very appreciative of the work that I did.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support during the placement, including one to one meetings with a number of colleagues, including my line manager and various senior managers. I was also given a lot of independence and time to get on with tasks by myself, with the support needed to do so.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that the information I received during this time will be very useful when making job applications in the future. I learnt a lot about the energy industry and this technical knowledge will certainly be helpful. Though the placement only lasted for two weeks, I feel I had the chance to develop some skills, particularly communication skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The placement was well-structured and I had a clear project to be completed by the end of it. I had a wide variety of meetings which were scheduled in at the beginning of the week, meaning that I always had something to do. The time frame for my project was manageble, but I could possibly have completed more tasks within the time frame given.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was great and I was made to feel very welcome by everyone in the company. So many people were willing to give up their time to tell me about their role and answer the questions I had. I believe that the warm and friendly atmosphere was one of the highlights of my placement.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My placement was only for two weeks, so there was a limited amount that the company could have invested within me in this time. However, I feel that the best effort was made to do this within the limited amount of time available, with numerous training sessions and meetings being arranged for me.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The placement gave me a great insight into what it would be like to work at the company full time, as I got the opportunity to speak to all of the graduates on each of the different graduate programmes and learn about their roles. I also was able to speak to senior managers in the different business areas.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I feel like I was able to get a great insight into the company culture, which was facilitated by the warm and friendly atmosphere, as well as by the opportunity to speak to lots of different people from across the company. The culture was conveyed clearly through the company values, which I felt came through during the placement.

  • I felt it was really helpful in supporting be in making this decision. I had previously been considering a career within the energy sector, but after all of the information I received during my placement, I left thinking that this was definitely the career path I wanted to pursue in the future.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for the two weeks of the placement. I felt that I was paid very adequately for the work that I did, and was grateful that I managed to learn so much during this time. The financial renumeration I received was definitely sufficient to support me financially during this time.


  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were exceptional opportunities for networking and I had the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people from across the company
