The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Capital One. The experience that they offer is rich, well-rounded and just incredible overall. I had the opportunity to work with a team of interns and within an already existing team on different projects, which gave me a plethora of experiences that all combined to give an enjoyable and rewarding internship.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. As an intern at Capital One, you really are just another member of the team and contribute in the same way. You work on real business problems and provide real value to the company. From the first day, I was involved in all team activities and treated as an equal throughout.
I was given abundant support by the network provided to me at Capital One. I had a manager, mentor, and buddy, all who helped me in different ways. I always felt like I could go to any one of them, or anyone else on my team, for that matter, with anything, and they'd be more than willing to help. This is representative of the culture at Capital One. Everyone is willing to help you to achieve your best.
I had the perfect amount of work on a daily basis. I was always busy and had something to work towards, but didn't once feel stressed. If I ever even got close to stressed, then something was done immediately to make sure that I was alright and was given the support that I needed.
I was given as much responsibility as anyone else on the team, which was brilliant. It really pushed me to deliver my best work. You aren't just thrown in to it, however. There is a well-thought, effective on-boarding and training process in the first few weeks, so you feel confident in getting stuck in to your work and are able to hit the ground running.
The skills that I have developed will assist me massively in my degree studies and beyond. I've been exposed to so many new areas of software engineering that I had no idea about before and have enhanced my skills in familiar areas tremendously. Capital One are really keen for you to get as much out of the internship as possible and constantly challenge you to be ambitious with your goals.
The Company
The atmosphere is great. There's always stuff going on and the culture is really fantastic. It's a warm and welcoming place to work and everyone is really friendly. It's also a great environment to be productive and get your work done. There's a variety of zones so you really can work in a place that suits your needs.

Future employment prospects are fantastic. The intern programme is a great way to get a place on the graduate programme, as if you perform well, there's a good chance that you'll secure a spot. Once you're working at Capital One, too, there are lots of opportunities to progress and their promotion policy is very transparent.
The Culture
There was a really great social scheme amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues. Capital One put on a lot of events throughout the internship to encourage mingling with the current graduate community. The interns/grads were also really friendly and I made some really good friends throughout the time that I spent here
