The Role
EDF Trading gave work that was interesting and of value to the teams you are working with. The company culture encourages a productive but relaxed work environment and I worked alongside some very friendly colleagues.
Colleagues welcomed me very well and were very happy to explain things and to talk in general. Additionally, they very kindly did a going away drinks event. Overall, they were very welcoming.
My supervisors gave plenty of support, both with regards to the work I was undertaking and also in terms of general career guidance.
I was busy with my project throughout the placement, but at times the work would get slow and a bit more variety in type of work would have helped with this.
I was fully responsible for my project and its development, I was not micromanaged at all.
The company's HR gave weekly training sessions which helped develop knowledge of this sector of the industry. Additonally, we were given training days which enhanced our presentation skills. I have definitely learned many valuable skills at EDFT which will be useful in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was fairly quiet, with people mainly focused on work. People did not seem stressed but it was not a laid back environment either.
The internship was lacking some organisation from a HR perspective as they did not run any events for the interns until the very end of the internship, so at least the made up for it at the end.
The company offered many training opportunity and gave us a couple of full day training sessions and weekly lunch and learn events.
The graduate scheme at EDFT is very good and a great destination for any graduate or intern. However, the intern scheme does not feed into the graduate scheme and relies on the interns applying on their own accord.
The Culture
The interns were very social, going out with eachother weekly. The colleagues would tend to have a weekly drinks after work but otherwise not much more of a social scene.
Cost of living in London is high, but this is as expected.
All london nightlife is under a 20 minute train journey away.
There are volunteering opportunities for employees but not for interns.
