The Role
The intership allowed me to grow my knowledge in the industry field and to build my confidence of being a woman engineer in a fierce and competitive industry. The past 7 weeks have been brilliant and I couldn't recommend it more to students wanting to go into the field of engineering.
I felt that after the initial week of navigating my way, that I was able to be a valued member of the team. I was able to take on a number of tasks and deliver them on time.
The support and guidance from my supervisors was instrumental to the success of my time at Arup. They were very hands on and constantly checking whether I had any questions or query's about the many tasks bestowed upon me.
I would say that I was fairly busy at the beginning of the internship, however as I became more familiar with the various jobs that were being done and what the company was involved in, I became increasingly busy. Towards the end of the internship, I was working longer hours to achieve all my daily tasks.
As previously mentions, the levels of responsibility came with increase knowledge of the business. Within 2 weeks I was given a number of responsibilities that initially I thought were daunting, however this pushed my skills and capabilities and ensured I gained more skill during my time at Arup.
As I have finished my degree, I feel the skills that I have learnt during this placement will stick with me wherever I end up at the start of my professional career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was vibrant, welcoming and had a work hard/play hard attitude. This was very encouraging in the work environment and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Based on the office atmospheres that I can compare to, this has been the best.
This was significantly well organised, I never felt as though there was nothing for me to do.
The company invested in me just as they would for other vacation students. I feel that the firm invested in me in a way that was by offering me a second summer internship.
Subsidised Canteen
They are very appealing. It is a good company to start ones career with.
The Culture
A very good and social team of people who have been incredibly inclusive even to me as a graduate, which is positively telling about the kind of team they are.
This was very high, but as can be expected in London.
I did not really experience the night life scene. The pubs and restaurants around the area were lovely!
Yes however due to my limited time at Arup and trying to give my all into the work, I didn't really get involved in any of it.
