The Role
I felt as though there was a range of things to do, such as workshops and actual real life projects which had given me a great, fruitful insight into what it would be like to work at BP. I was also treated like an adult and not just a random intern.
My colleagues had treated me a like a true member of the team and even took out their own time to sit me down and explain what goes on in the team. I learnt a lot from them and they helped me integrate just fine into the company and team.
My host manager on the placement was brilliant on all levels. She gave me meaningful tasks and often listened to me. She allowed me to shadow her within her daily tasks and offered explanations and lessons on things I did not know. She was very empathetic and caring and everything I would look for in a manager.
Some days, I would be overloaded with tasks. But other days I would genuinely have nothing to do and would often find myself browsing the internet for random things that were unrelated to my work. It was also sometimes difficult to get work because everyone was so busy or my manager was not in.
I think I was given a fair bit of responsibility. Because I was given real tasks and project, I felt a little bit of pressure but also felt as though I was genuinely learning and being treated like a proper employee. This helped me grow in my confidence though yes
I gained a multitude of skills that will 100% help me in the future. As I had expressed my interest in law, I was placed with a lawyer as my host manager and hence I learnt some first-year modules of a law degree which has equipped me with the right knowledge
The Company
I think overall, it was rather quiet. I heard on other people’s floors that the conversations did not stop, but my floor felt quite isolated and anti-social. Nevertheless, everyone was friendly and talked to eachother when they could. Oftentimes the colleagues would talk to me about general things which made the atmosphere relaxed.
I think everything was pretty well-organised. I understood who to contact or go to in the event of an issue and followed through with this. I understood what to do in certain situations and all the bits and bobs that were necessary in knowing. Great organisation on Career Ready’s half.
Very much so. An especially useful tool for this were the Q&A sessions we had with the senior people in the company. As young people we learnt a lot from the experiences and advice that the senior employees had given to us. As well as this, the workshops worked great in developing soft skills.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
I guess since working there, I’ve gained a few contacts in terms of building my network. I’m aware that they know of my skillset, but perhaps I would have a slightly higher chance of getting a job there since people there actually know me. I would love to work at BP- definitely my type of company.
The Culture
Yes! Myself and my fellow interns had all formed quite a strong bond. We all mingled well but I think this was more on our terms than the internship organisers. We went out of our own way to get to know eachother and I think it worked quite well together.

Because I live very close to Canary Wharf, I know all about the facilities. I know that it has some great bars and restaurants but other than that, i’m unsure of what there is on offer. They also have a great ‘movie night’ thing going on with huge TV screens - brilliant.
No. The company did not iterate anything about activities outside of work. Everything was about what was going on inside. But again, i believe it’s all on the terms of the individuals themselves to set these events up rather than on the responsibility of the company. Otherwise, Haven’t heard anything about it.
