About You
The day overall was very helpful to understand the company culture especially through networking with the firm's employees, you understand that asides from work, the staff to make efforts to engage with each other in various ways such as staff sports games and other committees that function to help the team connect.
the staff and employees were very polite and accommodating, as at most events, I expect to be treated as a colleague rather than a student and they met my expectations in that aspect. Similarly, the guest speakers were very enthusiastic and intrigued to hear our thoughts and opinions on every matter.
We were given ample time to talk to members of staff about their experiences and how they made their way in to finance, how they found it settling in be it coming from a finance background or non finance in the same respect. We also had some networking exercises at the start
There were no proper interactive exercises so I cannot say that I have developed skills after attending the insight nor has it or will it assist me in my degree studies though it has helped me become more knowledge about the individual roles within the firm and what their day to day is like
The Company
it was very well structured to the point where we had so many questions that some sessions overran. There should have been some finance related exercises though because i think that would have been more beneficial for those who have not been exposed to finance before instead of doing networking practice.
the firm helped me to understand that there is likely to be a lot of hours but there was so much passion that came out of the employees that it seems to be enjoyable and less of a problem because it is so engaging but it also dependent on division.
the day helped me to know which division and role i would be more suited to as before i thought i wanted to go into a different division but i was not aware of how much hours i would have to do including working on weekends which doesn't fit my needs
Everything Else
i was pleased that they offered the opportunity to reimburse as the timing of most insight days are during term time so for those who go to university outside of London, it can be a great inconvenience having to pay to get in and out of London all out of our own pocket.
The networking opportunities were good as we got to meet employees from all levels however it would have been nice to meet the graduates as for some of us we would either convert to be one or apply for a graduate role so it would be nice to see how they are finding it so far.
we were not told about this unfortunately so i assume that the employees do not get involved in activities outside of work and from the nature of the work that the people at the firm are involved in, it is quite likely that there is not enough time to do so.
i would recommend the insight day to a friend if they are at a university near or inside of London as it was a very long day, from 9.30 - 6.30/7, it was quite tiring coming from uni and then having to leave so late to head back to campus.
