The Role
I have loved every minute of my placement. Accenture helped me to discover my strengths and my passions around data and design and allowed me to develop on these. I would recommend this placement to anyone who wants to try themselves out in a variety of industries and jobs as Accenture provides the perfect opportunity to branch out and explore regardless of what you are studying at Uni at the moment.
Everyone at Accenture made feel empowered and it was an amazing learning experience. I was never treated as someone who is 'just' and Intern. I was on an out of town project and so I didn't only work with people but essentially lived with them in the same hotels. We all grew really close and it felt like a big family / friend group rather than a group of colleagues.
I was blessed with the most amazing managers in every project I did who treated me as an Analyst / Consultant rather than an intern. They have supported me not just on a professional but on a personal level as well. I had some rough personal things to deal with in the past year and my managers and team was 100% behind me to support.
I was extremely busy - sometimes a bit too busy - but that is all because I actively sought out extra learning opportunities and additional work on top of my project work. Work at Accenture is what you make of it - you could just focus on your project deliverables or you could get involved with extra stuff which will definitely ruin your work life balance but will help you learn more than you could have ever imagined.
I was literally treated like a full-time Analyst and in certain situations like a Consultant. I have developed a niche skill and was asked to lead various trainings on it. I have upskilled hundreds people from all levels and parts of the company and was even invited to fly out and run trainings in Dublin. Imagine teaching something to MDs who have worked at this company for 15 years when you yourself are an Intern! It's amazing that Accenture put that sort of trust in me.
My placement has not only given me an extremely clear idea on what I will want to write my thesis on but will also allow me to make it more personal as I will be able to use examples from my placement experience. My placement has also helped me improve my time management and prioritisation skills and taught me more about pressure and stress and how to handle them effectively. Furthermore, it is important to mention that I now feel more confident in my skills - I believe I can handle pretty much anything life / university brings at me. I think this is actually one of the biggest and most important things I have gained out of this year.
The Company
I was really lucky to be on one of the best projects with one of the best team ever. The atmosphere in our office was always very welcoming and everyone is really approachable regardless their career level. The London office is also super nice and fun and there is always something interesting going on that you can get involved in.
In general it was all a great experience. I have had some issues after the end of my placement with not getting my P45 on time but that is really the only complaint I have. It is a very well developed scheme that ensures you get the most out of your experience.
There are tons of learning opportunities within Accenture that are free but if you want to go to an external training that costs money then you cannot get that as an Intern (at least you couldn't in my team). I do know that once you are back as a full-time employee that changes and you have all the opportunities in the world available to you.

I have got an offer at the end of my placement and I cannot wait to come back as a full-time employee. If you couldn't tell already, I am obsessed with the company and it truly feels like my second home / family. It will be awesome to come back with an already developed network of contacts as it will ensure that I won't have to spend time on the bench but will get staffed on a project ASAP when I rejoin.
The Culture
There is. There have been numerous company events for the intern and also for your individual teams. They are so fun and the best thing is that you can get involved in organising them. The team on my project was extremely social and we had socials every week. We also had dinner together most nights / did sports together etc. It literally felt like hanging out with friends rather than your colleagues.
I worked 4 days in Reading and 1 in London. The latter is obviously really expensive and that is where I lived but Reading is pretty okay in term of prices. Also when you are on an out of town project you get an allowance for lunch and dinner and your hotel is also covered to you are essentially living there for free (while still paying rent in London haha)
It was alright. Check out the infamous Purple Turtle in Reading, our team spent many memorable nights there. To be honest I didn't go out as much as some other people on the team so I am not an expert on this topic but those guys definitely enjoyed the nightlife in Reading.
Yes so many. There are tons of social clubs in Accenture that you can join. There is something for everyone - whether you are into sports or nutrition or arts. You also get volunteering days and there are a ton of opportunities to choose from. There is so much you can do it's just up to you whether you actually do it or not.
