The Role
The team were great and the work was rewarding, at times the work given to me could have been more challenging but I think the fact that I was given analyst work helped me learn a lot. Soft skills were taught but I hoped to gain some hard skills too.
As I said before, the team were amazing and they were very good at teaching me what to do with a lot of patience. From the get go they gave me important aspects of the project to look over and be responsible for, this showed that they trusted me and hoped I would learn quickly.
I was given a lot of guidance and I never thought I was alone, theybwould challenge me and expect I learn things on my own but always under some sort of supervision in case I did something extremely wrong. However the method of learning suited me well, being given constant feedback.
Some days were easier than others of course but overall there was always something needing to be done or helped with. Whenever I had finished my work it was easy to find something else to help out with and therefore I was constantly working on something or helping someone finish something.
I was given responsibility over some very crucial aspects of the project, these deliverables were key to the events that were running. Other times I was working directly with the client and therefore a lot of responsibility was put on me to keep up consistent good work for the client.
Not all the skills learnt will be applicable but the skills that were based on organisation and how to work well in a team to achieve one goal is very applicable to my degree and I will use the skills learnt about agile working for this and I am glad to have gone to some brown bag events for this.
The Company
The office was quite dull sometimes because it was old and there seemed to be some problems with the air conditioning but some days it was very good and there were little parties and celebrations based on the project happening, this definitely livened up the mood and it was a great place to be.
Very organised in my opinion for me. This is because the project I was on treated me as an analyst and therefore there were some teams that I took part in that gave me the work of an analyst. That way it was structured well because there were real deadlines.
There wasn't a lot of time to actually invest in me in particular because there was always work going on but wherever possible with some effort from me I was able to get more development. This means that it wouldn't have happened without my input I think. This is because the project is hectic.
National Travel
Very appealing because I have spoken to other people working within Accenture and the projects they are on seem to be very challenging and interesting in that way. there are a lot of growing opportunities that I will be interested in. Especially when in regards to technology and learning hard skills.
The Culture
There was whenever something was organised for us but in general the vibe was good with the interns and I only wish there was more free time to meet up with them but because of how the projects were scattered it was hard to always organise something between the entirety of the interns.
Since we were in London it was very difficult to find cheap places nearby and therefore the costs of living were very high most of the time. Eventually you find places that are cheaper than others but still overall it was very expensive, especially of you take travel into consideration.
There was no nightlife where we were and I wouldnt know either because it was never the case that I would be in the area that long, there were bars but I would only go to those in the evening and not in the night time, I'd be on the way home.
The area offered easy access to many London tourist attractions because of where the client was located but activities would be organised between the interns to go to the tate or to the cafes nearby. There were occasional events after work provided by the client but these were quite rare.
