The Role
My job was very enjoyable- from travelling, meeting new people, to having the freedom to explore my interests.
I worked closely with full time employees and was made to feel a part of the team- by the end of the year, the same people I originally went to for help had started coming to me.
I kept in constant contact with my supervisor who was in the cubicle next to mine, and met with my manager fortnightly. On top of that, any time I had anything to say, I could freely approach anyone I needed to.
There were some times when I found myself with little to do, but it was easy to find something to occupy myself for the most part. There were also times when I was very busy, but I never had to work over time without getting time off in lieu.
If I wanted to take ownership, I was allowed to.
The freedom given to me allowed me to direct my projects towards my interests and my expertise, or branch out from those in ways which will positively impact my studies and future work.
The Company
I had a collection of paper airplanes on my desk that every now and then I'd throw at/to colleagues just to lighten the mood.
The placement was well organised, although at times the company was not. We were full time employees and treated as such, so in a large corporation its hard to avoid some disorganization. Overall I always knew where I was and where I was meant to be going.
I was able to organise trips to other Intel sites to meet other people in the company (which hopefully will stick in their mind if I look for future work), and they allowed me to explore new areas and learn new tasks with freedom

Within my team/department, there is a very low turnover rate. However, they are very keen on hiring previous interns and at the end of the placement you receive an internal recommendation that will be applied anywhere in the company. Since it's a large corporation, there's a likely chance of getting future work with them.
The Culture
There're approximately 60 of us in Swindon that make it quite a good time.
Far cheaper than where I went to Uni
Most of the time we had fun by going out in groups/together, but Swindon's nightlife is much better than I'd originally expected
Intel supports volunteering efforts, and there were constant emails going out about people going to build a garden, or play football, and so on.
