The Role
I had a really great time during the internship. This was a good insight in what it's like to work at the company, I learned a lot of new skills and met many interesting people. There were no negative aspects of the internship and I am very happy with the experience.
I think it was really great that all interns were part of a team, and we were doing actual tasks that were part of a development process. Everyone was very welcoming and willing to help. While we were given real tasks, our colleagues seemed to understand that we need some guidance and support.
My manager was always there for me if I needed any help. He was located on the same floor as me, so I could always come and ask him questions. We talked every day so he was informed about my progress or about any problems I was having. He was really good at suggesting some people I could talk to if he did not know the answer to my question.
Even though I did not feel overwhelmed with tasks, there was always something to do from the moment I got in the office until I left. I set up some goals with my manager at the start of the internship, so I could plan my work accordingly, which helped me to avoid any unnecessary stress.
I think everyone was given the tasks that actually mattered and the work we produced became a part of bigger projects. At the same time, there was room to make mistakes and it was part of a learning process - identifying what went wrong and fixing it. So even though I knew that I am doing something that is actually going to be used, I did not feel too stressed about it.
The internship helped me to develop my skills in the areas where I was not very confident, such as databases and machine learning. Also getting to see what kind of applications are actually used in a workplace was a great experience and it will help me to feel more comfortable in my graduate job.
The Company
In my opinion, the atmosphere was professional but not stressful. It is open space, so you can see everyone and what they are doing. I think seeing other people working around you and knowing that people see you helped to stay motivated, focused and keep the energy up throughout the day.
It seemed to be very well organised. All communications were timely. Everything was well-planned. There was even a phone app for the interns to use with weekly updates, programme information and other things. I think the internship programme has been running for many years, so everyone definitely knows what they are doing.
I think the company was very invested in us. We had a week of training at the beginning of the internship, where we learned more about the company and had some technical training. Overall, it felt like the whole internship experience was for our benefit, for us to learn something.

I had an amazing experience and I definitely want to come back. I think this internship was a good opportunity for interns to see if they want to work here, and for the company to see how well the inters do. I received a graduate offer at the end of the internship and I am looking forward to coming back!
The Culture
Everyone was very nice and friendly, so there were a few times when we went somewhere together with my colleagues. Interns talked a lot among each other, and we went together for meals, had nights out or just simply had lunches together. By the end of the internship people knew each other very well.
It's no secret that London is known to be an expensive place to live. I definitely wouldn't say that the it's cheap to live in London, but I think if you're working then it's manageable. It was a little bit difficult to find an accommodation for the duration of the summer internship, because it is only a few months, so I had to look for something on AirBnb, which is probably a little more expensive than just renting.
I worked at Canary Wharf, and there are some really nice bars, pubs and restaurants in the area, where we would go with our colleagues or with other interns. Also Canary Wharf is well connected to other parts of London, so finding something to do on an evening/night out is not a problem.
There were some volunteering opportunities, where all interns volunteered at a school for a day. There were also outdoor volleyball games right next to the office that everyone could sign up for. There were a few running marathons as well. Overall, I think there was always something to do for people who wanted to be involved.
