The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement at NBCUniversal. Everything down to the company culture, people, work environment, day-to-day tasks, and perks made this year one of the best years of my life.
I felt very valued amongst my colleagues. I was given a lot of responsibility and treated like a full-time employee. I was also given the freedom to get involved and make a difference within my team and the wider organisation.
I was given a lot of support and guidance by my immediate manager, HR managers, and the Early Careers team. All were extremely helpful in terms of career advice, settling in at the company, and with any queries I had. I’m very grateful for their encouragement and support.
I was given a lot of responsibility within my team and treated like a full-time employee. I also took a leadership role in extracurricular areas and so I did juggle a lot of projects throughout my placement year. It is really up to you how busy you want to be but personally I had a nice balance.
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout and was overseeing key accounts for the company as well as getting involved with other areas outside of my immediate team. The amount of responsibility was great as I was able to learn a lot and challenge myself.
I believe the skills and experience I’ve gained from my year at NBCUniversal will assist me for the rest of my career. It was an incredible opportunity to learn about a fascinating industry and how a global company operates.
The Company
The NBCUniversal London office is very large with multiple floors and departments and the atmosphere will vary according to where you are but generally it is very positive, friendly, welcoming, sociable, innovative and professional.
Very well organised. We had the opportunity to attend internship workshops and talks and there was always support available. The Early Careers team are very passionate about the program.
NBCUniversal really value all of their interns. I had various training sessions at the beginning of my placement with my immediate team members and weekly meetings throughout the year to review my progress and check in on how I was doing.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Numerous interns progressed into full time positions at the organisation. NBCUniversal also run a graduate scheme. It all depends on availability at the company and how well you performed.
The Culture
There were over 70 interns altogether and so it was incredibly social. This was a key factor in my enjoyment at the company. There are lots of opportunities for socialising beyond the interns and your team. I’ve formed friendships that I will have for the rest of my life during my time at NBCUniversal.
London is expensive although it will depend on which area you choose to live in. NBCUniversal’s office is located in the centre of London which is fabulous for socialising. If you are clever with location and going to student bars etc. it is very doable.
NBCUniversal’s London office is located in the centre of London, very close to Covent Garden. The area is filled with many bars, restaurants, clubs all close by.
NBCUniversal have tonnes of opportunities to get involved. They have various employee groups for you to participate in as well as volunteer days.
