Summer Analyst Review

I throughly enjoyed the internship. It was a great balance of completing valued work and networking with a variety of individuals throughout the firm. The campus recruitment team ensured there was a variety of sessions to boost our development which widely contributed to this. I would recommend the firm to anyone considering applying.

I felt highly valued by my colleagues. By the end of the internship I felt fully integrated within my team. I was given tasks with increasing responsibility as the internship went on. The tasks I was assigned went far beyond those decided in my initial objectives and I think this shows how I felt valued.

I was given support throughout the internship but more at the start, as to be expected. Within the first week I effectively shadowed an individual within my team to learn the skills needed. Following this I was watched closely within the next week and once I had established the core skills I was left more to my own devices. Whenever I needed assistance there was always someone I could turn to for advice or help, and this is highly encouraged throughout the firm.

Within my working day I didn't once find myself with nothing to do. I always had multiple tasks to complete which kept me busy throughout the internship. As the internship went on I became more busy and within the penultimate week I became very busy as I began to complete handovers.

This was the aspect of the internship I was most pleased with. Considering the importance of the tasks I was doing, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of responsibility I was given. I was often encouraged to make decisions which would have great impact and this allowed me to become more confident in the role.

In terms of my degree studies, the internship was different to the work I complete (written assignments mostly). Due to this, I don't think it will aid me much within my degree. However, beyond my degree I think the skills I developed will be incredibly important when I return to J.P Morgan. I expanded my communication skills and we were also provided workshops within Microsoft Excel, presentation skills and building our own personal brand.

I really enjoyed coming into the office each day as the office was very collegiate and my team got on incredibly well. The analysts on the graduate scheme made a great effort to introduce me to people within other teams, at different levels of seniority. I also had the opportunity to visit different offices and again the atmosphere was very friendly.

We had various events throughout the internship which were set up well and split up in order to allow us to take the time out to attend them. Each Monday we received a newsletter outlining anything we needed to know and this made sure all details were covered. It was very well organised from all aspects.

In the first week we received excel training and then throughout the internship there was sessions on presentation skills and developing our own personal brand. This was very helpful, but some of the other internships within the firm received more training so perhaps some more relevant training could be introduced.

Incredibly appealing, they have offered me a position next year on the graduate scheme which I will be taking.

J.P Morgan hires a very large number of internship students, so it is easy to find people to hang out with, whether it be at lunch or after work. Furthermore, this was even easier as there were socials throughout the internship where we had the opportunity to network with each other.

London is an expensive city to live in but I think people know this already before taking a job in the area. As for socialising, it is more expensive than outside of London but not too extortionate.

I enjoyed the nightlife in Canary Wharf as there is a variety of bars and nice restaurants; myself and the other interns often went here after work on a Friday. It is also a short commute into central London where there is an even greater variety. London has a lot to offer in terms of nightlife.

I believe there was opportunities in sports teams but I didn't uptake these as it was only a 10 week internship.
