About You
The 3 day women in business placement provided great variety from the first minute. I was able to choose how I would like to spend my time but was given the right amount of structure and support for making these choices. Even though the placement was just 3 days i believe I saw and did more than other internships might provide in two weeks.
PwC really cares about their incoming talent and it shows. From my assessment centre to job offer I was made to feel extremely valued, with employees from all levels of seniority taking time out their days to introduce themselves and make me feel welcome. The placement was very organised and I was never made to feel like a ‘second thought’.
Everyone I met emphasised the point that if I had any sort of questions they’d be happy to answer. I was provided with a ‘buddy’ that was my ‘go to’ between different meetings and client site visits, they were very friendly and welcomed me to the internship with an informal chat and regularly checked up on my progress throughout the internship.
My internship was only 3-days long so there were always a limited amount of skills i could develop in the short time. However, the application process was invaluable to my personal and professional development. The application process reinforced both the confidence I have in my own capabilities and my motivation to strive for positions I want.
The Company
The insight started with an introduction which outlined the general events that would take place over the course of the week. I was also given a more specific plan by my mentor and never felt as if I didn’t know what to do next. Although the insight was very structure there was also room for flexibility in the plan made for me, for example I had a last minute change of client site visits due to a projecting arising that interested me more.
I found that the everyone I met at the office was very friendly and welcoming. Furthermore, there seemed to be an excellent dynamic and all the employees shared a high level of motivation. Individual project teams were able to get to know each other well during their projects. There was a great mix of fun but also everyone knew when to knuckle down and focus on tasks in hand.
My internship with PwC was only 3 days long so there was limited time to develop skills I had. However, I was provided with a laptop and various items that would aid my experience whilst there, which for such a sort time is great! Furthermore, I was introduced to the training I could expect when I start my graduate scheme.
Never did I expect to learn so much about the company in only 3 days. I was able to speak to a huge range of employees from recent graduate to company partners. I found this very helpful as it allowed me to visualise a path I might be able to follow in the future.
The insight was great for understanding the company culture however i believe a variety of other events PwC hosts such as the females of the future event are better for understanding this. Whatever you’d like to get involved with at PwC probably is available. There were huge pinboards inside the offices with posters and pictures of all the events that take place amongst PwC employees.
The days of the internship were set up so you could get a real feel of what it would be like to work at PwC. And since i spent my time without employees at different experience levels I was easily able to see how i might progress in that particular career path.
Everything Else
I was paid for my 3 day internship at PwC, this made me feel very valued as an intern. Furthermore, I had to a travel to a number of client sites and was reimbursed for my expenses to get to these. The process was straight forward and I was guided on how to submit an application.
I was introduced to many employees of all seniority levels in the company, this was one of my favourite aspects of the internship, the fact no one acted ‘too senior’ to give up a few minutes of their time (or an hour in some cases!) to talk to me about the company and the work they do. Furthermore, the employees even set up a lunch meeting for me with another University intern from another company while at a client site so we could share our experiences of our internships - I thought this was an excellent idea.
There were pinboards in the office displaying all the social and networking activities in PwC. My short time at PwC meant i was not able to attend many events but the ones i did attend were great! Furthermore, i was informed of the strong networking events in place for new graduates.
Both in the females of the future event i attended before applying and during my insight week i was informed of the many social events and clubs available to pwC employees! I was even invited out for lunch on my first day, which helped me to get to know the employees in a less formal environment.
I have already recommended the insight to younger students at my university. Since the internship was just 3-days you didn’t have to commit to a whole summer if It’s a completely different discipline to your current degree course. The insight had opportunities to lead onto summer placements or graduate schemes which is another reason why i’d highly recommend it.
