Operations Intern Review

I really enjoyed my internship and the various learning workshops which were organised to encourage us to build our network of contacts and develop our business skills. I respected their interaction with charity groups and the day we spent helping on a local farm which targets homelessness in the local community.

My colleagues treated me with respect and always aimed to get me engaged with the various projects my team worked on. They were always welcoming if I had any questions and I would feel extremely happy if I were to work alongside them in the future. They were a united team

My manager was approachable and engaged with me regularly to review my objectives and goals for the year. Senior management were extremely approachable and always offered their time to help us learn more about the company and their role within it. We met several times with our managers and stream heads to check up on our experience.

It would depend on the businesses needs at different times of the internship. For example some weeks were busy when we were coming up to deadlines and finishing large projects, however when projects were finished workloads would tail off and there would be less to do. There were online courses to do if workload was light

I was given an appropriate amount of responsibility during my internship in the form of a governance role. This was extremely beneficial as it meant I was responsible for project management and organisation teaching me valuable skills. I was given often a similar responsibility to analysts on my team, however I never felt overwhelmed.

It will help my organisation skills and my self discipline in terms of time management and preparing to write my dissertation and business report assignments. It will help my leadership skills and project management and I would feel more confident to join a financial institution or any industry related to business

General atmosphere was conscientious workers, people were always willing to assist you when necessary and always tried to make us feel welcome. There were a few deadlines during my time there, so the office was quite busy - but people still made time to speak to you and help throughout the day.

The internship was well organised throughout it's course, there was a weekly programme to help us in some sector of skill development, it was also a good time to interact with other interns and hear how their time was going. I didn't find out about my placement until the day I arrived at the internship, but I think that was just an unusual case due to where I was placed.

I think the company invested in us a lot as interns, the whole process is basically a 10 week interview and I was given exterior level 2 training in excel, alongside opportunities to attend other seminars. There could be more learning opportunities for other staff I might't have been aware of.

I think future employment prospects are extremely positive within the organisation as it is an industry which is still growing, and one of the best asset management firms in Europe at the minute with a great work life balance. I am happy to be accepting a job with them in September.

Yes. Mostly among the interns as most people in my team had families to go home to, however amongst the younger colleagues there appeared to always be an opportunity to socialise at some stage during the internship and if anything it was encouraged to spend time together during our lunch.

Edinburgh is quite an expensive city relative to other cities within the UK. The cost of living was covered if you accepted accommodation that the company provided which was great for people who came up from all across England and those who came from the rest of Europe, it meant they also had a place to socialise.

Edinburgh has great nightlife and the offices are right in the city centre. Plenty of local bars and restaurants, our internship was also during the festival so there was plenty of opportunity to go and see a show after a day of work! What a great time to be in edinburgh

I think there would have been more opportunities had we have been there for a longer duration of time, there is usually less organised over the summer due to people being on holidays etc. There were days away to the golf that staff member could win and a 5k run in september.
