About You
Everyone I worked with my very welcoming and tried to help me make the most of my time with them. The atmosphere was very relaxed and meant that everyone was more than happy to help me out and go through what they were working on with me regardless of time pressures.
They took a real interest in me and what i was doing. Offered me the chance to meet a range of people from all parts of the company so that I could get the most out of the experience and treated me like I was part of the group for the whole time.
During my time there i got to spend time with people a different stages within their career which really helped me to see what a future job could be like. People were all very supportive and treated me like i was part of the team and had been there longer than i WAS.
As I study Actuarial Science having some job experience in the Actuarial Department of PwC was extremely using to my degree and all the skills I developed are related specifically to my degree and my possible future job afterwards. People were also very informative about their experience within the profession especially dealing with Actuarial exams.
The Company
My actual time with the Actuarial department was well structured as they worked as a team to ensure that I was able to see the full range of tasks they deal with. However there was a slight issue with laptops being available for the full duration of my time there but this was rectified as soon as possible.
The atmosphere within the entire Leeds office was very welcoming and relaxed which was really nice. People were always happy to make time for the interns and treat you like part of the team which really went a long way to making me relaxed at the office and not too anxious.
The company invested well in my training and development for my short time there, making me confident that if i was there longer i would be more heavily invested in regarding training and development
My time within the company gave me a valuable insight into what it would be like to work full time at PwC as all the employees took a real interest in me and treated me as if I was already part of their team which was very valuable to my insight
My insight was really usually in understanding the company culture and pleasantly surprised me as the office was extremely modern which followed through in to the company culture. This was very different than my previous experiences in offices and highlighted to me the benefits of working for PwC in the future
The content of each day was extremely valuable to helping me decide my future career path. This is due to the fact that the people I worked with were eager to show me all the different parts of the job so that I could really make the most of the experience which helped me clarify that I would like continue looking into a career as an actuary
Everything Else
I was well paid for my time at the internship
There were quite a few opportunities for meeting other employees of the firm as we had people visiting from other offices who were always keen to speak to me and ask how the placement was going as well as answering any of my questions regarding the different offices or areas of work.
I was able to engage in some opportunities to network such as a company lunch on my final day which was useful for building up relationships with the employees. This has also continued since I've left with me being offered to go back to the office for one of their networking events.
I found out that there was a range of activities the employees got involved in outside of work however due to my limited time in the office I was unable to partake in these
I would recommend this insight to anyone looking into a career as an Actuary as it was extremely useful for gaining knowledge of both the actuarial profession and PwC as a company.
