The Role
- very insightful internship with a steep learning curve - very supportive environment - acceptance as a full team member - challenging tasks supporting the learning process - very flat hierarchy - high responsibility on the job during the whole course of the internship; thus I had a very good learning process
- during the whole internship, feeling of being valued by all team members - very friendly environment - felt like being treated as a full-time employee and not as an intern - all employees in the team were very supportive over the whole course of the internship leading to an overall very positive impression
- assigned buddy / supervisor was very supportive in showing me the dynamic of several tasks - buddy / supervisor was always available for guidance and questions - buddy / supervisor supported the whole internship class during the case study period by giving valuable suggestions for a successful report and presentation
- very busy time over the summer; nonetheless the great dynamic of the team led to a very good balance over the internship - being assigned to several life executions during the summer enabled me to gain valuable insights into the investment banking industry as well as into the way how J.P. Morgan delivers best results to their clients
- especially at the end of the internship, responsibility for specific tasks was very high (comparable with an analyst) - at the end of the internship, I was working on a live buy-side execution / transaction; my responsibility on the project was to build the excel valuation for our client
- especially for the job entry next year, the acquired knowledge and skills will assist me in succeeding on the job - I think that I could especially increase my technical capabilities over the period of the summer internship enabling me to quickly start as a full-time employee next year
The Company
- the general atmosphere in the office was very good over the whole course of the summer internship - summer interns supported each other - oftentimes, parts of the team had dinner or lunch together leading to a very good team spirit - the atmosphere in the office was always very good, independent of the time of the day
- in my opinion, especially J.P. Morgan, compared to other banks, is very well organized and thus very efficient in delivering the best results to their clients - e.g. big databases for company profiles, old materials, presentations, excel files etc. making all working processes during the summer internship very time efficient - training and events had always a very high quality
- before the internship, all summer interns received a very comprehensive training (1.5 weeks) - the quality of this training was very high - during the internship, all interns of the DI team received a sector-specific training from different colleagues (quality of the materials and the sessions itself were very high leading to enormous learning progress)
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- the outcome of the summer internship was a return offer for next year - I was delighted to accept this offer and will return next year - for me, the prospects within J.P. Morgan are very appealing and promising for a successful career in the investment banking industry - overall employment package delivered by the company is more attractive than at other banks
The Culture
- the overall spirit within the summer analyst class was good during the whole course of the internship - all interns were very supportive and supported each other - during the weekends, the majority of the intern class went out for dinner or drinks - some of the interns became very good friends of mine
- cost of living and socialising is very high, especially in London - I spent the majority of my monthly salary on the rent of my apartment (next to Mile End) - going out on weekends (restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs) was always very expensive compared to Germany, but quality delivered was always very high
- the nightlife in London was generally awesome - the opportunities of restaurants, pubs, bars and clubs were very broad, the quality of all locations (+services) was always very high - nearly all interns were involved in going out during the weekends - full-time employees promoted to go out during the weekends
- J.P. Morgan itself organized several events outside the office - e.g. corporate social responsibility day, several team-building events, drinks on Fridays after pens-down etc. - overall, there were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work which led to a very good team spirit at J.P. Morgan
