The Role
I've really enjoyed my placement with Randstad so far. The team and everyone I have met along the way are so friendly and helpful. The actual placement role has been much more than I expected, and is relating to my degree above and beyond what I thought it initially would. I feel like I was suited well to this role and am getting the most I possibly can out of it. I feel really lucky to have secured a placement with Randstad.
I was nervous about joining a 'real-life' company and meeting my colleagues for the first time. To my surprise, my colleagues have been one of the best aspects of my placement. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and nothing is ever too much trouble. I feel as though I have made friends for life that I can always ask questions to and nothing is ever too much to ask.
The support and guidance by my manager is excellent. She is always asking if I want to take part in extra activities to get the most out of my placement year, and no request is too big an ask. In terms of guidance, I feel like I have learnt so much already in the 3 months I have been here, and am provided with training and support whenever I need it and am never afraid to ask for help.
So far in my placement I have had the perfect work load. I support the HR Assistants whilst also having my own projects to fulfil. The workload is always monitored and if I am struggling or stressed I can instantly ask for help. Considering I came into this role as a placement, I assumed some of the jobs would be 'easy' and 'quick', I'm so grateful this hasn't been the case and that I've been able to challenge myself on a daily basis alongside never feeling too overwhelmed or stressed.
So far in my placement, I have been given way more responsibility than I thought. I see this is a really positive thing for my career development. I have been treated as a true employee whilst at Randstad, and never once been given 'easy' or 'unwanted' jobs. I am also pleased to be running multiple projects which I feel is a big responsibility, but also something which I am excited to progress in.
In honesty, I initially wasn't sure how suited the role would be to me. But I was so pleasantly surprised form the first day. My recruiter enabled me to apply for a job a little out of my comfort zone, but I'm so glad I did, as the skills I have learnt so far in my Data Analyst role will aid my immensely in my final year of University. I feel that the extent of knowledge I have learnt already in my Placement, alongside the technical skills I am learning everyday, is going to have a huge impact on my final dissertation and my future career prospects.
The Company
Luckily for me, my office atmosphere is exactly as I wanted it to be. Whilst having a laugh with my colleagues, I can easily concentrate on the more challenging work at hand, but there is always time to 'unwind' if anything gets too stressful. In general, I look forward to coming into work everyday, which says a lot about the atmosphere.
I feel I was very lucky with my placement. The process of on boarding was spot on. The communication before and during my placement was consistent, and I always felt that I was kept 'in the loop' with the process. From my first day I had timetables in place and targets set, and I felt at every stage I knew what was going on and what I had to achieve.
Randstad's investment in placement students is second to none. No request is too much to ask, and they always want to help you progress further in your career. In just my second week with the company I had client visits planned and workshops in order to learn as much as I could about the role. Randstad also has an 'open-door' policy, whereby they welcome any 'new' and 'fresh ideas from placement students, which I think is an excellent addition to a placement to really make an impact on the company.

I'm really confident that Randstad has helped me excel in future career prospects. I have learnt skills from my placement that I definitely wouldn't have obtained before, and most importantly my confidence in networking and putting myself 'out there' in terms of future career opportunities has grown tremendously. I am hopeful Randstad will be a possible future career option for me.
The Culture
On the first week of work, Randstad let all the placement students meet and go for lunch. I think this was really positive as we got to know names and faces of people in the same position as us. There's multiple online social groups with all the placement students in and a specific 'placement student induction' is held one month into the role in order to meet all the placements form separate branches as well as just those form your office.
I secured a placement in my home town, and so for me this was ideal as I could live at home and commute to work easily.
Again, as I lived in my home town I was familiar with the nightlife around where I worked. However some placements I met that were living here for the first time seemed to go out a lot and enjoy doing so.
Yes definitely. Randstad is great in getting everyone involved, whether you are a full time employee or a placement, there is constantly opportunities to all meet up and have a laugh. Pub quizzes, nights out and community days are amongst some of the things I have taken part in so far within my placement. Team days out are also really fun, and it's good to get to know your team mates outside of a working environment.
