The Role
So far I have really enjoyed my year at Randstad, I was placed in CPE which stands for Construction Property and Engineering and have learnt so much about the desk I am working. I now also have a really good insight into how recruitment works and the processes which go into finding the right job for the right people.
I feel very valued by my colleagues where I am treated just like every other employee and not just as a placement student. We also have many social events where we go on incentives as a team that may include going out for drinks or doing group activities.
I am provided with a lot of support from my manager where I have weekly progress meetings to discuss how my week went and what I need to do to meet my targets. I am always able to ask questions no matter what they are.
My days are very busy, I always have jobs which need to be filled or candidates that I need to speak to. However, I find this very manageable because I write a daily plan so I can spread my time out to ensure I complete my tasks. Even though it's very busy, it's still a very fun environment to work in.
I was given a lot of responsibility as I work jobs for my manager. So it is my responsibility to find the right candidate for the right job, otherwise, we will not make the job placement. I also have to maintain spreadsheets, write job adverts and maintain client and candidate relationships.
The skills I have developed and the training I have received will help me greatly in my future studies. The main skill that I have developed is communication, where I am always in contact with clients and candidates, whether that be by phone, email or text. I am studying business and management with a large interest in recruitment and this placement has allowed me to have a great insight into how recruitment works and if this is something I would like to continue doing after graduating.
The Company
The atmosphere is very fun and loud, there are always people on the phone, music playing and people talking. This makes the day more enjoyable.
The work placement was well structured where I was given direction as soon as I started, I was taught what I needed to know, but am still learning new things every day!
My manager has invested a lot of time into teaching me about recruitment and the industry which we place jobs into. This empathised every week in our weekly meetings.

They are very appealing, Randstad offer many training routes to allow employees to develop further within the company. You can complete the training days and earn qualifications in recruitment.
The Culture
Yes, there was a good social scene throughout the whole office, on a Friday we normally go out for drinks after work and have many social events, which has definitely helped me to settle in.
The cost of living for me was low as I lived at home and commuted to work, but the general area for socialising isn't too expensive.
The nightlife is very good with plenty of pubs nearby the office and not being too far away from town.
Yes, there were opportunities to get involved in activities after work, we have quarterly incentives which we always look forward to.
