The Role
Really enjoyed the year. Lovely colleagues, interesting work and great work-life balance. Hope to go back.
I feel like my colleagues valued me and they were treated me very well however I think it can sometimes be hard to feel valued when some of the work is so technical and so difficult to get as involved in as you’d like.
Personally my manager was excellent in managing me and was always open to help me/provide me with any support. Not sure if this was the case for everyone.
Depended on the time of year. My directorate was affected by brexit in that lots of work was halted until we knew exactly what deal we would get. Would have enjoyed more work within my own team but it’s always possible to find work/people to help so wasn’t quiet for long when I was.
I feel quite a lot by the end. Although I would say more responsibility would probably have been given to me in other less technical areas.
Very much so; soft skills improved massively. Was completely technologically illiterate prior to my placement; now extremely confident on Excel and able to code on R. Great for development, wasn’t just stuck doing grunt work.
The Company
Great; everyone lovely
Don’t find out about graduate offers until January. Extremely poor decision as lots of placement students that have had money and time spent on training them now not returning to the Bank we don’t want the job insecurity. Aside from that silly decision was well organised.
Lots of opportunities for training but very little specifically organised for placements which I would recommend
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Travel loan
Very much so; extremely interest in the work undertaken. Annoying you don’t find out if you can return until January.
The Culture
Definitely; everyone lovely and sociable
London’s expensive especially compared to home but if you want to work in finance it’s what you should expect
London’s London
Quite a few; you had to pay more than normal employees annoyingly and the sports club is out of the way but nevertheless.
