The Role
I highly enjoyed the internship and I only have great things to say about Rothschild & Co. It was due to a combination of factors, from the great culture, incredible deal flow and efficient team management, as well as the highly useful training week at the start as well as on the job training
I felt very valued by my colleagues. We worked very well together as a team and enjoyed taking on many projects. They would always explain anything I didn't understand and expectations were always clear from the start. Additionally, we would often have team events and fun nights out so it wasn't always just work!
I was given a lot of support. Anything I didn't understand or didn't have 100% certainty about, was fully explained to me in detail. They want you to grow and mature and learn a lot, and it's also a good position for you to be in because then you can decide if its the right job for you.
My days were typically very busy but that's because of effective time management, both on the team's part as well as mine. The best part is that you always know how busy your day will be looking from the start, so there were no awful surprises really. Fridays were typically quieter to make up for the rest of the week!
I was given a high level of responsibility, but I had to earn this as your colleagues do not know what level of skills you have from the very start. So, I demonstrated my initial competence and this resulted in me being given higher levels of responsibility as time went on.
I do not study a finance-related degree, but I feel that the skills and training were extremely beneficial to me in terms of preparation for my future career in banking. It was very relevant and they showed you the most efficient ways to do things so I think it couldn't have been better!
The Company
The overall vibe was great, I think the most important aspect is the people there and they were all very lovely and treated interns as part of the team, rather than an addendum as what may have been the case at other firms such as bulge brackets, so this is what I really appreciated.
The organisation and set up was really great overall. There is a team of HR responsible for making sure you settle in well, complete your training (which is done by external providers), attend all the fun intern events and also explain your strengths and potential improvements during the review process.
I feel that Rothschild & Co invests in its juniors a lot. For example, interns are encouraged to attend meetings either with seniors or with clients, and it was more common than exceptional to see this. They let you play up a level if you're good, meaning you can be the analyst on the deal if you prove to be competent.

Employment prospects are really good, as this is a meritocratic firm which hires based on skills, competence and likeability. If they see you working hard, they will reward you very well for that. They hire interns who perform well and do not make up anything about headcount, like some of the bulge brackets.
The Culture
Yes I believe the social scene was great! There were so many events taking place each week, from internal team socials to HR hosted intern events. It was highly encouraged to attend every single event because the firm recognises the importance of having soft skills as well as honing your technical skills, so they really encouraged us to socialise and grow our networks
I do not know much about the cost of living as I commuted there. But, the socialising was really fun because there are so many places to go out and celebrate on a Friday! We often went to some of the restaurants nearby and would grab dinner together as a team at the end of the week
The nightlife was good overall as it is not too overpriced like areas such as Mayfair or St James, but it is also a lot more varied and exciting than further out areas such as Canary wharf. I think the city has the most interesting places to hang out after work in London
Yes, there is a gym with daily classes such as pilates given. There are regular events related to well being, leadership and team building that also take place throughout the year. Many people also took part in the JP Morgan run that took place during the summer. I think the team events were the best part though!
