The Role
At the start of my placement it felt as though it was a bit of a struggle, my manager was off for a week or so, starting on my first day, so I didn’t really get the best start to the company. After a month or so, I really settled in and ended up really enjoying my internship.
I felt valued as an employee, however as I was not in the main office area it was a struggle to meet people and I didn’t really know anyone other than the people in my office.
I was given good support and have gained a variety of skills and have learned how to use a number of different systems that I didn't know about beforehand.
As I was in product support it really depended on what people were ordering, the quantity etc.
I don’t feel as though I was given all that much responsibility during my internship. I had been showed how to use all of the systems however it was relatively easy to change anything that I had done. I felt as though I was more than capable to answer phone calls for orders etc, however was not shown how to, do was not allowed.
I don’t feel as though the computer skills will help me as much in my degree as I had initially thought. It is good however to have a basic understanding of the majority of systems.
The Company
Everyone in my office was really lovely and easy to get on with.
I feel as though it could have been set up a little better, I felt as though I was just dropped off on my first day, taught the systems and that was it.
I’d love to have an opportunity to work with Egger Hexham again and build on skills that I have picked up over the summer.
The Culture
I live 20 miles away from where my placement was, I thankfully drive, but public transport around the area I don’t believe is too good. Overall Hexham is a lovely town to pop into on a lunchtime or after work.
