    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Eaton. The skills and knowledge gained throughout the year were invaluable and I was surrounded by a supportive and welcoming team. I was lucky enough to work across 3 different Eaton sites, so I was always kept busy and had a great deal of responsibility from the very beginning.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At each Eaton site I felt valued by all of my colleagues from all areas of the business. If you did a job well, you would always be praised for it. I was welcomed with open arms and felt like a part of the team. You were never viewed as 'just an intern'.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt extremely lucky to be working with my manager. She provided amazing support throughout my placement, and always made time for my questions even though she was extremely busy herself. I always felt like I could approach her for guidance whilst she helped build my own confidence so I could make decisions for myself.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Working within a small HR team meant there was always something to be done! I like to be kept on my toes so I enjoyed working within a pressurised and busy environment, however, if the workload ever became too much my manager would always step in to support further.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a great deal of responsibility from the beginning of my placement. My manager wanted me to be involved in as many projects as possible for the year to boost my experience. For example I was heavily involved in recruitment and given the opportunity to run my own assessment centres. It felt great to be provided with that level of trust.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills and knowledge I gained during my placement will successfully help aid my final year of studies at university. I can now see how theory is implemented into real life practice.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was mainly based at Eaton's Mitcheldean site which was often very quiet.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was set up well. It was great to have training days for the whole intern cohort every few months where we could share our experiences and learn new skills together.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Eaton provide great training and development. There is 'Eaton University' courses that you can complete on any areas or skills you may want to improve in. All of the interns are provided with training courses every few months. The company have a lot of interns who come back as graduates and then progress into managerial positions so its clear they invest in early talent.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Eaton have a great development path and I would go back to work with them in the future.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I worked alongside two other interns who I got on well with. We met up a few times outside of work, however, it was a struggle to find weekends we would all be free at the same time for.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I chose to live in Cheltenham, which was quite an expensive area and around a 50 minute drive from where the Mitcheldean site is based.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is no nightlife in Mitcheldean, however, you have Gloucester and Cheltenham as other options.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The interns would occasionally plan some out of work activities for staff, however, this wasn't a regular occurrence due to the limited staff at the Mitcheldean site.
