The Role
I loved the internship provided at Capital One. Even on a ten week programme, interns are provided with meaningful work that genuinely helps you to learn and progress. The type of experience you can get from a role like this is invaluable on a CV as future employers will know that you have actually completed some tangible work while at Capital One.
There is a great culture of belonging at Capital One, often teams will go out together to do activities outside of work and even as new, fresh faced, interns the same culture is extended to you. I personally felt I was able to contribute to my team, and for that I feel that I was valued
My manager was very supportive, we had weekly catch up sessions where we could talk about how I was getting on and progressing, offering advice and support where needed. I have found that Capital One is not only good at giving support where needed, but also giving opportunities to people as well to help you learn and flourish.
The internship here asks you to balance a few things, there is a training plan that is very helpful and has interns attending some sessions put on by the company to help further your learning. Your actual day to day work, or project in some departments, and anything else that you choose to turn your hand to while there. I honestly feel this is the perfect balance, it's not overwhelming, but equally it is enough to not just keep you busy but give you a fairly real taste of how working outside of University can be.
This is a difficult one to answer, you are fully responsible for your own work. The project or work that you do will be given to you,a nd if you wish, you can completely own that from start to finish. I would give that a 10/10 for responsibility On the other hand, the company is so large and while the work you do may play a vital part, I think it'd be wrong to say that any intern is 'running the show' as the proper safety nets are in place.
I think it wouldn't be a stretch to say that my final year of university was significantly easier due to my learnings at Capital One. I had picked up on many things that simply were not comprehensively covered at university, mainly testing and working in an agile fashion. I was able to bring both of those into my final year of studies and I still use them now.
The Company
Brilliant atmosphere, a lot of fun, made a lot of friends with some like minded people. There are so many lovely people, in a place with such a good culture that you'd be hard pressed to not have a good time while you are here. Also played a lot of pool and table tennis over some lunches!
Perfect again, Capital One have this down to a science at this point, a lot of things were set up for us before we arrived so that we could turn up and dive straight in. After that there's a fair amount of small things to set up or organise, and they were either made very easy to do, or easy to fix if they didn't happen right first time.
I am still shocked at the amount of investment Capital One are willing to pour into interns, especially given that after the placement is over, they leave the company to go back to universities. Many people return to Capital One, but the investment into people that may not return speaks volumes about what kind of company Capital One is.

I was invited to rejoin as a graduate at the end of my studies, it was also possible to rejoin while moving departments or even location I.e. From the Nottingham office to the London office, or the other way around. I think that shows a persons future prospects in the company are being considered quite highly
The Culture
Absolutely, not only were the interns quite close anyway but they have a scheme where you can meet people who have joined the company in previous years via a graduate scheme or returning interns etc. I really enjoyed that as I was able to speak to people with a little more experience, that joined in the same way.
Fairly good cost of living, although I shared with other people during my time at Capital One so hard to say for sure, your results may vary. As far as socialising goes, Nottingham is a university city with 2 unis, so there are tons of things catered for students, almost all of them pretty cheap
I would have to echo the same as above, since the city has two universities the nightlife is great. Whether you're looking for bars and clubs or activities in the city too, they have something for everyone. Also, so many people at Capital One like to go and do things together, we would often all go together as interns
Plenty, the option for 10 stars says 'endless opportunities' and I would say that's exactly right, it seemed like you could do pretty much any activity with Capital One and the only thing stopping you is the amount of hours in the day, in a full range of things as well, like things like your work but outside of your role, to sports teams, to games clubs or films clubs to basically anything you could think of
