The Role
Great company, good culture, exciting team!
My colleagues were supportive of being a new young incomer and made me feel comfortable
My manager and I had implemented practices from the beginning of my year to ensure that I was given support throughout
My placement certainly helped with me understanding better what I want to do as a career
The Company
The office was slightly on the the quieter and on the dull side as everyone was either on calls or busy working. However, there was some chatter here and there amongst everyone which made it more interactive and friendly. Towards the end of the year CELA was working within an open space which helped this.
The overall placement was set up in a well organised way, however I felt personally that my team was not set up as well for me joining. As the months went on there was clearer structure which definetly helped me excel and build a stronger relationship with my manager.
In terms of personal training and development, there were great resources that the company provided with ranged from online training, to online courses and MOS exams. I was constantly encouraged by my manager to do this. I found that a large part of my personal training and development came from my 101 Social Impact Team.
It is appealing but I do believe that is important to have some sort of interest in technology and its impact for the wider good. I think having this will set a foundation for drive and success as Microsoft is very much focused on using technology for good which is essential.
The Culture
All placement interns got along very well where there were socials held throughout the year. As many interns shared the same team it was encouraging for everyone to stay in contact and get totgether.
The cost of living was relatively inexpensive where for a house share of 4 people living in the town centre of Reading it costed around 400 pounds including bills. This of course did vary. With regards to socialising it again was fairly inexpensive considering I did not go out very much often.
Reading is not the biggest on nightlife's but there are good pubs and clubs dotted across the town centre. This is where most interns would spend their Friday nights as well as plan intern social events.
The gym and the social 101 impact team were good activities outside of the day job.
