About You
I really enjoyed the day and I felt that it inspired me and motivated me to work super hard at university to be able to enter this highly competitive industry. I felt like the day was structured well and every task was useful in helping me to make my career choice!
The team treated everybody with the upmost respect regardless of their stages in the career, what they looked like or what they studied. Hearing from other graduates made me realise how passionate they are about keeping their team members happy and it shows, since the staff retention rate at M&G seems to be high.
We were free to ask questions throughout the day which I found very useful since they made us feel so comfortable to be able to do so. Also, at the networking lunch we were able to ask questions to former or current graduates, as well as senior members of the team.
With regards to my studies, I believe this day motivated me to continue working hard in my studies in order to be able to even stand a chance securing an amazing job like this. As for my future career, this day gave me a very thorough insight into what it will be like to work for a leading company in The City.
The Company
The insight was very well structured. The schedule was tightly packed but there were breaks included in the day that really broke up the day very well. I loved the trading exercise and believed that was one of my favourite parts of the day in that after every talk we knew we had some competitive group work to look forward to.
The atmosphere was positive and competitive. I was surrounded by passionate, motivating and intelligent young women who really demonstrated their skills throughout the day. The staff were very welcoming and made everybody feel so comfortable and valued even with the large group size on the day and they still managed to make everybody feel included.
Baring in mind it was only a one day event I feel like the personal training and development you gained on this day were a by product of the activities they put on as well as the talks and insights they gave. At the end of the day, personal development comes from within so it is hard to say ‘a company gave me personal development’ instead they simply contributed.
The networking event allowed me to see how my career could develop over such a small time frame which was very motivating and made the company more attractive to apply to. Also the insights and advice from the current and former graduates allowed us to see how we would potentially be entering this company.
I believe that I understood the company culture after my day at M&G Prudential. However going forward I think it would have been useful to have a company tour of the offices to see where you could potentially be working in each department as it brings it to life a bit more.
Before I attended the event I was looking at Investment or Asset Management as a potential career path but after my day there I decided that this is exactly what I want to do. If it hadn’t been for the graduates advice or the immersion into the company culture I don’t know if this would have been the case.
Everything Else
I think the experience and the advice given on the day was priceless. The expenses to get to the insight day weren’t exactly a lot either so I really didn’t mind spending a little to get a lot in non-monetary returns. Moreover, I think if you’re passionate enough you can always find a way to finance these useful activities.
There were so many opportunities to network and meet other employees in the company which was very nice compared to many other insight events I have been to. This was one of my favourite parts of the day because it is all good and well hearing from the recruitment staff what to expect but when you hear it from people with a first-hand experience of the company it is a lot more useful.
Networking was at the forefront of the whole day and I believe they took this part of the day very seriously. They allowed us to network with people of all different levels of authority and different stages of their careers, which was useful in that it allowed us to see the opportunities for progression.
I found out about the social activities that take place e.g. Bounce ping pong competitions, pub quizzes and a few other socials.i also found out about extra training that was on offer to employees which I thought was very useful and it shows they take pride in retaining their staff members.
I would definitely recommend this insight day to anybody looking to get into the asset management, Investment Management industry as it gives you so much information on what it takes to succeed in this sector and it also provides you with that extra bit of motivation we all need during our studies.
