Investment Intern Review

Coming from an engineering degree initially there was a steep learning curve to get up to speed on terminology used around the workplace, however having previously completed a year in industry in the engineering field I was able to transfer some professional skills across, so whilst much of the work was unfamiliar I still felt I was in a comfortable environment and was able to enjoy the work I got involved with.

All the people I met at LCP were extremely friendly. Not only are you invited to the Summer Party along with all the full time staff members, there are plenty of other things to get involved with to make you feel at home. In my first week at LCP I was taken for a welcome lunch and invited to play in the 6 A-side football team.

Throughout the internship there are mechanisms in place to make sure you have the support you need. This includes meeting the HR team responsible for welfare, being assigned a 'buddy' to support you with any work/ non-work related problems, and also a very supportive team leader who is likely to check up on you over a coffee at some point.

As you are only at the company for a short period of time there will be days when it feels like there isn't anything you can really get stuck into. That said, you are given a weekly project, and a 2 week project at the end so if you're at a loose end you can add extra work onto your projects. On the whole though there was enough work to keep me busy most of the time!

Obviously there is only a certain degree of responsibility that can be given to an intern, but all the work you are given is real work that will be used by the company, so you always feel like you're contributing. And don't shy away from asking for more work people are usually happy togive it away!

As someone coming from a completely different industry this internship provided me a great insight of what I could expect in the finance consultancy world. Many of the skills learned such as presentation skills will no doubt be valuable for the rest of my career, no matter what industry I end up working in.

The office atmosphere was extremely friendly, everyone will make time for you if you ask them to! The dress code is casual and as it is an internship over the summer you can expect to see lots of people wearing shorts round the office, which on a hot commute can be a lifesaver.

The internship was extremely well structured. There was a schedule in place to ensure you got you got a taste of a wide variety of the work carried out by LCP. As well as this, as mentioned before you are given real work to do which makes you feel like a valuable team member

The firm gives you a training day at the start of the internship to bring you up to speed on the formalities of the office as well as a few key concepts from the finance world. Following this it is largely down to feedback on your work from team members to help you identify areas for development.

Following my internship I received an offer to return as a graduate when I finish my degree. I was notified of this a few weeks after my internship, and a contract followed later in the post. I was delighted to get the offer as I enjoyed my 6 week internship and I'm looking forward to going back.

I socialised a bit with the other interns, however it may have been nice for an organised event including the interns from other departments as we didn't really get to see them.

As you are in London expect to pay high living costs and a fair bit for a pint as well!

It's London...!

Each week there was a football game for me to get involved with. There was also networking opportunities via cricket matches against other companies, as well as your average Friday night trip to the pub with colleagues. There were other activities available but these were the ones I got involved with.
