About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement with PwC. I was within the Operate Department and my mentor was called Julie. What I enjoyed was how much I was able to be involved in such as getting to listen into conference calls, listening to the daily aims for each employee and being able to understand what the task was that the team was working on.
I felt very valued as I was kept involved and informed about what was happening each day. After each call or meeting that I was in Julie described to me what had changed and what impact that change was going to have. She also always made sure that all of my questions were answered to ensure that I fully understood what was going on.
I received a lot of guidance. Firstly from Julie who after each day brought me in for a catch up and answered any questions I had. I also got guidance for the team leaders who let me follow them about for part of the day. Finally, the employees supported me by making me feel welcome each day and explaining to me what their job was.
They will assist me greatly through encouraging me to continue to work hard in my degree to help me get the best result possible and therefore get the job that I want. The insight has motivated me to continue to do work experiences to give me lots of insights into how different businesses work.
The Company
It was a very well structured insight from beginning to end. This was because the first morning for induction I was with other people taking part in the insight so I didn't feel alone and this calmed my nerves. It was also well structured as I had a talk at the end of each day with the woman I was shadowing, Julie. Finally, on the last day I met up again with the group of people who did the insight. This was an enjoyable experience as I got to hear how their insight went and how it differed to mine.
The general atmosphere was good within the area of the business I was in. At some stages it was quite stressful but that was expected as they were dealing with a large bank and it was also the first time they had worked in complaint handling with this bank so different results were coming back which frustrated the employees.
I felt very invested in during this experience as I was involved in basically everything that Julie was involved in. This made my experience as I felt part of the team and was then able to fully understand the task at hand. In terms of personal development I feel it has improved my confidence.
This insight gave me a very good understanding of what it is like to work in PwC as I was able to ask questions to all of the workers at different levels within the company. This made me understand the work ethic within the business and also understand what it is like to work 9-5.
I understood that the company culture was about enjoying you work whilst also ensuring you were working to the best of your ability with a very high standard or work expected. At lunch time I was able to go with some employees which gave me an insight into what they enjoyed about working for this company.
The content was very valuable as I got to see what the employees did day to day and this has helped me decide what I want to do as a career.
Everything Else
Yes I was paid within this insight which motivated my to work even harder and pay very close attention to what I was experiencing each day. This also made me feel more valued and I felt respected through the company being willing to pay me even though I was there for my benefit and not the companies.
There was a very good opportunity for networking and meeting other employees within the company as I was with a team for the three days but was also shown round some of the other teams and introduced to many people who asked me questions as well as me being able to understand what their role was within the company.
I was able to network with a lot of employees of the company and also was able to be social with them at lunch time which I greatly enjoyed.
I found out that after work they go out for social events together which sound like great fun.
Yes I 100% would recommend this insight into PwC to a friend. This is because I really enjoyed the experience and feel it is a great thing to be able to now say that I have completed it. I gained a massive insight in the company and from this insight now also have my placement year sorted with PwC.
