Management Trainee Review

My placement with Enterprise was extremely beneficial in terms of experience and meeting a breadth of new people, feeling like you were able to make a difference in a global company. A lot of my enjoyment in the role stemmed from the range of opportunity available to develop employable skills and develop my own business acumen, as well as the amazing people you get to work alongside everyday - develop a true understanding of the importance of team work.

Even as an intern, you are a fully pledged member of the team, everyone contributes equal value in producing the best possible service for customers and to work towards business prosper. Several team meals, nights out and after work catch ups meant we were a close-net group and everyone's input appreciated.

Quite often your manager will be sat at the front desk with you and other colleagues, fully immersed in the day to day activity of the business, making your ability to ask for guidance and receive support easy. Training is frequent and monthly reviews of performance provided, so the support network is plentiful.

Located in Bristol, most days were pretty busy ! In more rural branches the day are likely to be less hectic, but there's still lots to be done so the day's fly by ! It allows fast skill development and allows your ability to decision make under pressure/with spontaneity to grow.

The responsibility offered to interns is vast, and should you choose to take this on and challenge yourself, you are likely to be promoted within the year - which not many placement students can parallel ! You are tasked with acting as an assistant manager for the day, managing the fleet and guiding colleagues through daily practice, which is an excellent learning curve.

Working for Enterprise certainly increases both your confidence and therefore your ability to lead, which is highly beneficial in a University setting for group work and seminars. Time management is also a significant one, bettering the management of deadlines and readings that University's require.

The atmosphere is usually a great one, everyone supporting one another and free to ask any questions that may need answering - performance is also recognised throughout the group after every excellent interaction, boosting motivation. The office can get busy but this is often when the team pulls together the best, recognising that to achieve the best results we have to work with each other's, as well as the customer's best intentions at heart.

The Placement was well organised and things were seldom left until last minute in terms of planning and communicating training days etc. The support network for placement students was fantastic and the effort made to make the interns feel at home / aware of the of full year process was plentiful.

The Placement was arranged extremely well, with first day, two-week, 4 month and 9 month training meaning development was ongoing - despite being only subject to 12 months in the company, there was significant investment in employee development. Due to the company's size however, it could sometimes feel difficult to stand out/ achieve regular recognition.

Prospects are high with the likelihood of achieving managerial status within two years of working for the company. There is a clear progression plan to be followed and lots of horizontal opportunities also, transitioning into head office roles and areas ranging form risk management to HR, lots of options is increasingly appealing.

Lots of social opportunities - particularly in city locations ! Several area nights out meant you could better get to know employees in neighbouring branches that you didn't get the opportunity to work with everyday, as well as the opportunity to meet with fellow interns at flip/flop days and weekend socials.

Bristol was reasonable perhaps in comparison to London, but less so in comparison to Barnstaple for example in terms of price of living/rent - but manageable in terms of earnings and trying to make the most of the weekends. Important to save monthly so that you have earnings to fall back on !

Nightlife was so great as there are so many places to go in Bristol - both cheap and fancy options meaning both evenings full of cocktails, and afternoon encounters in Wetherspoons are both catered for ! Kings road, Clifton triangle and Gloucester road are just a few of the good spots !

I didn't engage too much in activity outside work due to the hours being slightly longer than the average 9-5, other than the gym on some evenings ! Work related activities were limited in the week - perhaps the occasional branch meal for hitting targets on a Friday or Saturday !
