    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at RBS on the 10 week summer internship programme a lot. My team were really friendly and welcoming. I fit right in straight away and didn't feel like "the intern". The team made good efforts to keep my workflow engaging and that I was happy at all time. They even gave me responsibility for real jobs within the team that had to be done which I never expected as I was only an intern. Overall a great experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleages made sure that I was happy and engaged every week. When work was deligated to myself colleagues would take the time to explain everything and write out my plan for how to successfully complete the task. When work was completed I was given sincere feedback and praise which was valuable.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was especially supportive throughout the whole internship. From the very start we planned exactly what would be doing, what my interests were and looked at possibilities for shadowing different areas of the business. My manager was always reachable and very easy to get along with. If I ever had an issue or question she would always be there to help.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • From day one the work load was a perfect balance for a summer internship. You have to remember you need to learn the ropes before being given a bigger piece of work which helped me at the start. The work load and difficulty was challenging but not overkill. My team gave me responsibility as soon as they felt I was capable which made the work feel more enjoyable as you as solely responsible for the end product.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In my placement the work started off as tasks to get familiar with my team. I was set tasks by my manager which required me to contact people in my team to get started. They would then explain what they wanted me to do, suggestions for how I might want to approach it and finally roughly when they expect the work to be completed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Office skills are invaluable regardless of the content of your placement. I developed my communication skills through hosting daily team meetings. Broadened my knowledge around the agile work environment as my team and I think the whole bank work in an agile way. This was a great learning curve for me and I can now see the benefits of working in this manner.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • From day one my office was brilliant to work in. They had regulsr social events inside work hours or lunch times which were all very enjoyable. Everyone in my offi e had respect for each other and the conpany which set a great tone in the office. Everyone was approachable.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In my case my manager really made an effort to make sure my placement was structured and that i had plenty of work to be getting on with. The work load was well structured and I don't think it could have been organised any better than it was to be honest.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave me plenty of challenging work which I used communication and computer literacy skills to complete. As it was only a 10 week placement there is only so much responsibility they can guve you but if I were to join the graduate scheme I would imagine it would be great as they will invest a lot of time and effort in getting you up to the right skill level.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a place on the graduate scheme after completing the internship. I had to decline as I already have a graduate placement lined up but would definitely consider working with them in the future.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Plenty of opportunity to socialise putside of work with colleagues. I never really took part in that as I had to travel home. A few occasions I would stay out and had a good time.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Most I would pay for is lunch items for the team lunches.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Never went put as I had to travel to Gogarburn from Glasgow.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeah the interns loved going out weekly.
