    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the internship, everyone was so welcoming and friendly from day one. I was exposed to a range of different areas, which really allowed me to gain an insightful overview of the business. I know the interpersonal skills that I have learned this year will be crucial to me when going forward.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued, they were all very supportive and I was given a variety of work to complete. I was made to feel like I was apart of the team. I was given my own credit application to work on, which was very daunting however with the support and guidance of my team I was able to complete it to a high standard

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager booked weekly one-to-ones to make sure I was on track to meet my goals and deadlines. I also felt like I could go talk to him about anything I was struggling with. He also made sure to find out from HR what the requirements are to join the graduate scheme, which helped shape my application.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It started off slow and then after week two, I was being given a good amount of work to fill my day. I was given a lot of shadowing opportunities which allowed me to see a variety of areas within the business I wouldn't have been able to experience otherwise.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given an acceptable amount of responsibility, I was doing work for actual cases, however, the colleague I was working with always checked over my work to make sure I didn't make any mistakes. I was also given my own personal project which helped me to network across the bank.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was taught a large number of transferable skills which will help me in my final year and for future jobs. RBS helped to develop my work ethic and timekeeping skills which will help me in all areas of my life going forward, especially in my last year of university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My office was professional but still very friendly, and it helped me to see a different environment compared to University. Everyone was very friendly and approachable which made my internship a very pleasant experience. Before my internship I was given a dress code so that I knew how to look appropriate for the office, which made me feel very comfortable. We also had team lunches, which helped me to bond with my team.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organized, my manager always knew the objectives for the week and helped me plan which activities I could do to achieve the objectives. I was given a week by week table at the beginning so I knew what to expect, the table also helped as it allowed me to do some pre-reading around what I will be doing that week.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot of time and effort into us, we did a variety of e-learning modules to help prepare me for the job and to learn more about the company's values, ethics, and goals. We also had lunch and learns where lunch was provided and we would learn about a key business area, as well as evening drinks with Managing Directors.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A graduate job seems very appealing, I loved the atmosphere and felt as though I fit in very well. I also felt the companies values and ethics aligned with mine, which was very important to me. Also, all my fellow colleagues seemed very happy in their roles and most had been there for a long time.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! We were always out for drinks and dinners, some were organised by the graduates and some we organised between ourselves. We also had a lot of company drinks where we were interacting with clients and a variety of different people from different areas of the business. We also had a group chat which made it very easy to organize spontaneous drinks

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living at home however, travel costs, food, and drink were very expensive as I was based in London. However RBS tried to help this by providing London interns with a London Living Wage bonus. Interns also made an effort to get a train slightly further out so the drinks were slightly cheaper which made nights out not too bad.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in London is amazing, there's always bars and clubs open and I'd recommend that everyone experiences London's nightlife. Also, our cohort was very friendly so we went out to a lot of clubs and bars. We each took turns in organizing where we would go and we would take part in the RBS social nights as well.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were loads of opportunities to get involved in other activities. For example, I was lucky enough to be in London when the pride festival happened and we had a group of people going whom I joined. We also had loads of team dinners and drinks, which helped with bonding.
