The Role
It was nice to get an insight into what it is actually like to work at one of the big four. Everyone was friendly and accommodating and I felt I learnt a lot. I liked that the intake of other interns was quite large as it gave a community feel and felt like other people were in the same boat.
Considering how much I was able to do I felt valued by my team. People in my team took the time to sit down and explain things fully to me and I felt like people genuinely tried to think of tasks for me to do when I was having a quiet day.
I felt supported by both my assigned buddy and my line manager. I had a few meetings with my manager to discuss how I was doing and felt he put in effort to help me in areas I wanted to improve my skills in such as excel. We also had feedback meetings.
I felt like the workload was quite varied, I had some days when multiple people gave me lengthy tasks and some days where it was more quiet. But I understood that I couldn’t be given any task to do. In quiet times I had a few course things to work through.
I don’t feel I was given much responsibility but I was able to do research for clients that people checked. As we placement went on I felt like I was more trusted with the information I had found and so had slightly greater responsibility. I was also allowed to go on meetings etc.
I think the placement will help greatly in the future. I learnt a lot about the office environment and how to conduct myself. I also learnt how to juggle multiple tasks at once and give updates to my supervisors on my progress with their tasks. I improved my excel skills
The Company
I felt everyone was very friendly. I was asked to go for catch ups not only with my buddy and manager but also with other members of the team which made me feel welcomed. The office felt quite chilled out even when other people working there seemed to have a lot on.
I think the placement was very well organised. However I’d have preferred to spend some time in multiple departments rather than all six weeks in one team. However I understand that perhaps to get the best understanding of your area of interest it is best to spend all the time in one team.
I was not able to go on any training courses organised by Deloitte for its employees whilst on my placement but I felt that my team members gave me sufficient opportunities to develop areas that I wanted to improve in, they tended to target tasks to these areas for improvement.

I think working at Deloitte would still suit me, I enjoyed the culture of working there and felt like there was quite a community within teams despite it being such a large firm. I also find the prospects for career development there exciting. I like the idea of learning new things whilst on the job.
The Culture
There were a few organised socials, however there was only one for the summer vacation scheme students as a whole, I think just some service lines had more organised. However within tax there was a monthly social which was good for getting to know people in other teams within tax.
Being in London is obviously very expensive, living expenses, transport and going out costs quite a lot. B it I would say it’s worth it for being in London where there is always so much going on. I commuted from just outside of London to save some money on accomodation.
There were a few bars and pubs near to the office to go to if you wanted to socialise after work. I went sometimes with my team on a Friday. Otherwise being london there were many clubs etc in central London to go to, though not many in the immediate area
Deloitte seemed to have quite a few groups to get involved in though I felt it was difficult to get involved since we were there for just 6 weeks. Yammer was the deloitte network with posts from sports clubs etc. If I joined deloitte I’d definitely get involved in one.
