The Role
I greatly enjoyed all elements of my role. I was fortunate enough to spend time both in and out of the office (on site visits, viewings and meetings), which gave me a good insight into the industry.
Everybody, both in and out of the team I worked in, was welcoming and helpful, always ensuring that I had work to be getting on with.
I worked directly with Stephen Beard who made his full support available at all times.
I almost always had enough work to get on with, however I would have perhaps liked to have had more on occasion. As I was working in a new team (working with an asset class that I previously knew little about), much of this could however be attributed to my need to learn before being tasked with more work. I welcomed this opportunity gladly.
As I was only in the department for 2 weeks, it was difficult for me to be given masses of responsibility, however I felt as though whenever possible I was afforded enough responsibility to learn independently and contribute to the team. I was fortunate enough to conduct a site visit alone with a client in my first week!
I have recently graduated from Oxford Brookes University and am looking for a full-time position, this role gave me invaluable 'real' industry experience and I think that the connections I have made along with the things that I have learnt will stand me in good stead going forward.
The Company
I spent extended periods of time outside of the office due to the nature of the work that I was doing, however when there both the St Paul's office and HH had a great atmosphere conducive to both productivity and fun.
Stephen Beard set up my internship, and as mentioned previously, I always had work to do. In a brief period of time (2 weeks) I was exposed to a large section of the industry, something that I greatly enjoyed.
Everyone who I spoke with at CBRE was always forthcoming with advice and guidance with regards to my future and potential avenues for further development with CBRE.
Future employment prospects are very appealing, I am currently in communication with various team members, discuss both temporary and full-time positions.
The Culture
I was not part of any scheme, therefore I entered this placement alone, however I did meet a few people who were on the CBRE grad scheme and we regularly went for coffee to discuss work. The social scene was great among my colleagues.
Working at CBRE in no way affected my cost of living or socialising beyond the realms of reasonability. My only notable expenses were for travel.
I was not at CBRE long enough to encounter the Nightlife in the area.
I was not at CBRE long enough to find opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. However, having spoken to colleagues it is clear that CBRE do offer such opportunities to employees (Such as the CBRE sports day).
