8- I thoroughly enjoyed my Summer Vacation Scheme with Deloitte’s Audit department. Throughout the scheme I was constantly challenged and pushed out of my comfort zone. I learnt valuable technical knowledge regarding the industry whilst improving my soft skills. The support I received from colleagues during my time there hugely contributed to the positive experience.

7- Whilst at the firm I felt hugely valued. Deloitte are a company that strongly emphasise important values such as teamwork, trust and inclusion. This culture is firm-wide and it ensures that new joiners make the most of their time there. My senior colleagues were constantly checking in with me and went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed my work whilst being able to get the most out of the task at hand.

9- My colleagues were always available whenever I needed support. I greatly appreciated how my managers ensured that I thoroughly understood WHY I had to do a task as opposed to just HOW to do it. In my opinion such guidance is invaluable and is essential in order to make the most of any scheme.

7- During the summer vacation scheme I managed to gain insight into the workings of a global firm. I learnt new skills and improved my existing skill set. I learnt the important of inclusion, teamwork and empathising with those who were experiencing stress in the workplace. My knowledge regarding the role of an auditor and the financial industry was challenged and expanded.

9- Deloitte’s Summer Vacation Scheme was very well structured. Although I was only there for three weeks I was pleasantly surprised at the breadth and depth of experiences and technical expertise that I gained. I would highly recommend Deloitte scheme to anyone who is keen to gain more experience within the audit sector.

10- Throughout the insight I was exposed to people from a diverse range of backgrounds. I was given the opportunity to network not just within the audit department but also firm-wide. The socials organised by the firm for all those participating in insight placements enabled me to build valuable contacts that I still maintain today.

7- I was always provided with more than enlightening assistance and training before undertaking a task. At the start of the insight we were provided with two days of induction training. This was an excellent way through which I could prepare for the requirements of the department I was part of. Additionally we were provided access to online resources that could further our development.

10- By networking with senior colleagues and other new joiners I gained a lot of insight into the nature of a full time role with the firm. This was essential in order to ensure that I was able to understand what I would like to achieve in my future career and how best to succeed in this respect.

9- Being part of a supportive team made me realise that Deloitte are a firm who place great priority on inclusion and supportive networks. This is an environment that was hugely beneficial to me during my short time there and is a positive characteristic of the firm that appeals to me.

10- I was given the chance to work on a wide range of tasks essential to the audit that required technical expertise. Despite my limited prior experience my managers guided me through the procedures behind Cash and Accruals testing. This along with other the opportunity to engage in face to face client interactions were extremely useful in helping me decide that I would like to pursue a career in audit.

I was adequately reimbursed for all expenses and was paid appropriately.

These included a social within the London office I was in and our nation wide induction day meant that I was able to meet employees from around the country. These experiences were invaluable as I was able to build lasting networks.

6- I was keen to get involved with any volunteering opportunities at Deloitte. I had identified programmes of interest to me but unfortunately Vacation Scheme students are not able to get involved with volunteering opportunities while on our placement. However a permanent joiner would have limitless opportunities to pursue activities that appealed to them.

10- I would definitely recommend Deloitte’s programme to a friend as I believe it is an excellent reflection of the audit industry. The technical and soft skills I acquired throughout will be key for my future career development. The culture observed by the firms employees are also very encouraging to see.
