The Role
I enjoyed the team i was working with, everyone was really helpful and supportive. There was alot to learn with the job which has really given me a clear idea of what my industry path will be in the coming years after my graduation. The whole company is one of the many reasons why im enjoying my placement here.
My colleagues answered all my little questions and helped support my development by encouraging me to go to the masterlasses and take part in as many team activities. Sometimes i did feel like i could have been used more within the starting sample stages but i understood why i was not always included i.e. busy deadlines with quick turn arounds.
Both my line manager and head of were really understanding with university projcts i still had ongoing and were always there to talk if i needed to speak privatly with them. They offered great guidence and i felt comfortable going to them with any work or personal related topics. They helped bring me out of my shell and be more social and confident with any task.
I enjoy the busy schedule and work load so when there was quiet period i found myself not enjoying it as much or getting bored but i decided to keep productive by looking at return reports and learning new regulations as a self development within my knoledge and skills. Helping out on different sections and ages has improved my understanding on what samples need what specifics.
I was the supporter/ helping hand for anyone needing help with any gold seals. I did take on accessoried while the technitian was on holiday and i really enjoyed havinmg full responsibility. Currently i do not hold too much responsibility but i hope in the next 8 month it will grow and i will take on more.
All the skills i have learnt i can carry though university to my industry career. All the masterclasses they put on helped me learn about different area and help start me thinking in new ways that are beneficial to my degree as well as future job roles. Having a wider range of mens, womens, kids and babywear has been a major plus
The Company
The office although quiet is really nice there is no tension between anyone and everyone is happy to answer questions and help out each other. The office is a great atmosphere to work in because you can get on in peace but also have a converstaion with others without being rude to others who are working.
The placement team were really organised with setting up events and getting all placement student together for meeting or specific masterclassed they did a great job with everyones schedules. Setting up little jobs for each placement student to benefit us and the company was a great way of interacting with the other students and helping the company see what we were up to.
There was alot of time invested in making sure i had all the necessary document and links of any regulations as well as projects that would help me learn about each departments role and what to look for when doing different seals. They also enouraged me to attend as many masterclasses as possible to further develop.

When looking at the different jobs for garment tech/ junior garment tech roles at different companies i realised that the role and current job tasks i am doing at Matalan are what other companies are looking for when hiring. This has boosted my confidence for after my graduation when i will be looking for a job.
The Culture
The head of organising the placement student helped with getting placement student to interact and come together on social events and interact with each other while learning what each others roles include. We also all created a group chat for us all to communicate and socialise as well as plan each month to have a group lunch.
The head office was located in an industrial essate but the canteen in the building was really affordable and offered a range of delicious food as well as have companies and a fruit man come in and sell their products. There was many social events held which everyone took part in.
My team have done a pub quiz as well as team nightsout with everyone fully enjoying theirselves. Around the building there isnt many places to go but everyone found a local well known pub or place to go. Liverpool city centre isnt too far away from the head office so for weekends its a great place to go to enjoy day/night activities.
There was a few oppertunities to get out and take part in activies but with busy winter deadlines most of the oppertunites were for the placement students which was good. After the new year there are more outside activies including fund raisers, camping weekend (fundraiser) and a a few others that will bring together the whole company and work teams.
