The Role
I really enjoyed the work on my placement. The team I was working with was great; they were super helpful, they explained anything I was struggling with and were available to help me navigate my way to succeeding during my placement.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They were really respectful of my ideas and explained new concepts to me so I was able to assist them with work.
My supervisors were really supportive during my placement. They explained concepts to me so I was able to work independently. They also made it very clear to me what they were expecting on pieces of work they gave me which made it really easy for me to succeed.
During the first 2 weeks of my placement, I wasn't busy. At times it got boring. I think was because I was still finding my feet at Deloitte and it was always going to take time for my team to trust me and learn what I'm capable of doing. The second half of my placement was much busier but never too much that I was swamped/overwhelmed by work.
The responsibility varied. Some days I was given tasks where I was solely responsible for providing the final product and at other times I was just working alongside a Deloitte employee to assist in something.
Sitting in client meetings and taking notes has really helped me to improve my not taking skills in university
The Company
The general atmosphere was lively and friendly. I found people were able to talk about non-work related things if they wanted to.
There was a bit of uncertainty at the start of the placement as my supervisor had never been a supervisor for an intern before. But once he figured out what he needed from me the rest of the placement was seamless.
Deloitte made many of their online training courses available to me to do so I could learn the basics of tax law.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
At the beginning of the placement, they make it very clear what criteria they are looking for and what tasks they expect you to complete. If you do it then they offer you a graduate scheme.
The Culture
Yes. Events were organised by Deloitte and we also organised our own events.
The office is in the centre of London so rent and drinks prices are high
The nightlife was active in the area I worked in.
The team I was a part of had monthy events which I was able to go to.
